Question Are you having a frugal dinner tonight???

Josh has decided that he wants to make dinner once a week now so he went through my recipe books and came up with stroganoff over noodles.

Here is the cost breakdown for us:
    ~ground venison (free)
~plain yogurt (about .05 since it is homemade and the milk was free) substitutes for sour cream
    ~noodles (.50 for the package)
    ~onion (.20)
    ~spices (.03)

    Canned corn (free)
    Applesauce (home canned .20)

so for .98 we have a good and filling dinner!

Well - while I can't break it down quite like that for you, I'd be willing to bet that it's under a dollar here as well......

We'll be having Shephard's Pie and homemade bread (can we say carbs out the wazoo!!)......

Good job on the menu planning Josh.
Our dinner is pretty economical. We're having a 5 lb chicken
(.67 lb.) that will be rotisseried for dinner toniught & carcass & any leftover meat for soup later this week. Along with that we're having corn on the cob we froze from the summer harvest. Parmesan noodles made with inexpensive elbow macaroni to go with.

Found some frozen pork chops in the freezer, have some potatoes in the basement, and a can of cream of mushroom soup from ALDIS. Guess it's a porkchop bake here.

Not my most frugal meal ever, but better than eating out!
TurkeyBurger and Mushroom Gravy over whatever...

    1lb ground turkey - $1.645/lb
1 can cream of mushroom soup - $.50
    1/2 an onion - approx $.15
    Various spices - pennies
    Water

To serve over rice - we use $.45 worth of instant rice. Can also use potatoes, but since we have both in the pantry and we just had potatoes last night..

Total for two (with enough leftovers could have fed 5) - $2.75

Two families are having shepherd's pie - YUM!! one of my flavorites !!
We are having homemade bisquits which at one point I determined cost just a ridiculously small amount. Homemade sausage with 73% beef which we got for .79 a lb. mixed with ground turkey at .89 a lb. (we'll use about two pounds) and gravy made from stuff on hand which I can't gestimate a price on plus green beans 1.29.

Our dinner was also under $1 tonight, thanks to my Mom. We had a roast in the crock pot, which my Mom picked up at the A&P when they were having a buy one, get one sale. So, the meat was free (which is GREAT since meat is never free.) I cooked it in the crock with water, also free, and a can of green beans which I got at the last can-can sale for .40. We also had biscuits which I bought for .59 So, our dinner to feed 3 was... .99 cents! Wow! I never thought of it that way! And, we'll use the leftover beef for sandwiches or for leftovers one night.
