Default Here's a question for you...

I received an asian meal kit in the mail yesterday to test out (part of a market survey product test thingie). The kit contains the sauce, oil, and rice. I have to add:

    1 lb pork loin
    1 red onion
    1 carrot
    1 green pepper
    1 bunch daikon radish sprouts

Since I have to buy all this stuff, I am being given a check for $5. Outside of the daikon radish sprouts (which I skipped - they are just garnish), How cheaply do you think you coiuld do this for? Here's what I spent, and since I didn't have any pork in the freezer, I was forced to buy some at not the best price...

1 lb pork loin - $2.56 (actually pork chops)
    1 red onion - $.47
1 carrot $.10 (I bought a bag and just did this rough calculation)
    1 green pepper $.78
1 bunch daikon radish sprouts ($0)
    Total: $3.91

here in Australia it would be approximately:

    pork loin chops $4.50
    1 red onion - $.30
    1 carrot $.10
    1 green pepper $.60
1 bunch daikon radish sprouts ($0)
    Total: $5.50

I buy my pork in bulk at 1.89 lb for a big boneless loin roast and I cut it into medallions or cubes or leave some as a roast and freeze what I don't use that day.
I think the price of the pork is only difference I'd have price wise.

Have you made it yet? How did it turn out?

It turned out really good! The sauce had big chunks of pineapple and mango in it and was just the right amount of sweet and sour. The directions were easy to follow. I don't know if I'd pay $5 in a store for the kit, but it sure was yummy!

That's about the right price here as well.
