Default Dh Agreed to a Dollar Tin

So, this morning, dh and I were discussing money AGAIN and I timidly introduced the idea of adding a little something to the change bottle. I said that we'll continue to put our loose change in the change bottle, and asked what he would think about taking all dollar bills out of our wallets and putting them in a tin. Another way to save. Rob reminded me that since we never have any money to spend, we won't be making contributions often, and since we aren't spending the money we do have, if we have a $5 in our wallets, we'll probably have the same $5 for a few weeks, but that he was game.

So, I'm excited! Another fun way to save money, even if we don't put money in that often! It all adds up!

AmyBoz I was putting my $1.00's in the change jar also, but had to take out the $11 I had in the change jar, because I was running short of money before my next check.. Did have money in my savings and EF, but did not want to take any money out of the bank. Don't like taking any money out of the bank a few days before I get my check. I feel as if I do take money out of the bank a few days before my check I will be depleting my EF and savings for something that I will really need the money for. I continue to put my dollar bills in the change jar, but if I spend them I don't feel so bad because I didn't raid my savings or EF.

    Amy, great idea.

We put our $1 and $2 into our change jar. Both are coins so it adds up quickly. Through this past month, our change jar came in really handy. I know its meant to save the change, but with dh out of work, we used it for small incidentals.

i think i'm going to do a momma's mad money jar. it'll keep the 1's out of my wallet where i am more likely to use them for soda at work when i should be drinking water. and since it won't be part of my other 3 saving envelopes (pantry, christmas and EF) i won't feel guilty if i have to pull a few 1's out for milk or lunch money for dks. if i haven't had to dip into it, i'll add what's in there to the EF envelope at the end of each month.

We have a version of what you're calling momma's mad money jar - DH and I put in all of our bottle return $ (we get $.05 for every bottle we bring back for recycling) and then if either of us needs an small amount of emergency cash (or even fun cash - like I need $2 because every in the office is ordering burritos today) we can take it from the jar as a loan (must be paid back). But at least it provides some quick cash on hand when you need it.
