Yes, I think it is important not only to cut back on spending but for those of us that tend to "spenders" it is important to find out WHY we are spending. Do we do it because we feel lonely, sad or are we stressed out? Don't just take an asprin because you have a headache . . . find out why you get the headaches.

I've been thinking and my spending usually happens when I'm feeling stressed or happy. It make me feel better to buy something new when I'm stressed and when I'm happy, I like to buy a lotion or get a great deal on something that will make me even happier. I guess shopping is my addiction since I don't smoke or drink. I'll have to watch this pattern better!

Yes, when trying to change our behaviour, it is good to do some thinking about why we do something. I have heard from a Dr. once that when trying to change some negative behaviour do something else that would make it difficult to do the old behaviour such as a walk. These urges we have pass. Urges to snack or shop etc. So, when you get a strong urge to shop go for a walk (can't shop and walk at the park) Also, the walk will make you feel better and when you feel better perhaps these negative urges go away!
