Seriously considering getting rid of trash service
We pay $160/year for trash pick up, which isn't really bad, but we never have a full can. It takes us a month to fill it and they pick up weekly, so Matthew and I have talked about canceling the service and just burning our trash!! We already put all food scraps in a bucket for the dogs. All empty canned goods, soda cans, paper, etc we recycle!!!! What would you do?

Before you cancel, you should check into the legality of burning your garbage. In some counties in KY, maybe most (not sure of all), it is illegal to burn your garbage. If you cancel your service and they know you aren't moving, then they can fine you. Maybe you could check into ending your service and taking your garbage to the garbage collection center and paying a fee for that. Lots of places will let you haul stuff off to the "dump" and charge a flat fee by the truckload or maybe a "per bag" fee.

My DH and I got tired of "missing" the garbage man in the mornings, so when he got laid off a couple of years ago, we canceled service, and bought a trailer from Bi-Mart (or what ever store is near to you). Since then we take our garbage to the dump and pay about 12-18 dollars a load depending on recycling amounts.. We do this about every 3-4 months... That saves us a bunch, since garbage service was like 18 a month....Saved quite a bit doing this.. Just a thought.

Ours is $15 a month added to our water bill. The dump here doesn't charge, but I enjoy the convience of having them come to the house and pick it up. I know with the baby coming, I wouldn't want to gather up the garbage and haul off. Besides we have a pretty full load of trash each week so it is worth it to us.

I'm definitely gonna have to check into the laws here, I sure don't want a fine!!!!
I will also check into dumping it ourselves..........Thanks.................
