    Default Afluenza

Here is a web-site on a terrible disease a lot of us have right now called:

    Afluenza

Have a look at some of the signs and some of the cures!

I'd like to watch that show. I'm not sure we get here...

I also read this book last year---Affluenza: The All-Consuming Epidemic
by John De Graaf, David Wann, Thomas H. Naylor, David Horsey, Scott Simon

    It was very interesting.

The problem exists in the U.K. too - everyone trying to have what everyone else has. Last week in my 10th grade Spanish class, someone's cellphone went off, so of course I confiscated it, and made a comment about what a posh phone it was. So the kids asked me what kind of phone I have. I pulled out my cheap, old brick that still works a treat and, of course, they laughed at me! So I asked everyone to get out their phones and put them on the desks so I could look at them. They were all really expensive phones and all very similar. The really shocking thing is, most of the kids that I teach are entitled to and receive free school lunch, but they're walking around with £200 phones in their pockets? Clearly their parents have their priorities in the wrong place!

I agree with Lucie. Read the book. Its WONDERFUL!! It truly is sad the direction our society is heading in. I can only hope with the mass amount of people here and on Simple Living that it can change someday!
