My Dryer is Making Me Crazy
We have a gas dryer and lately it's not heating up. The clothes have to go through two or three times to dry...definitely NOT frugal!
I hang most of my clothes anyway, but I'm wasting so much gas on the others, it's killing me!
Has this ever happened to you, and if so, what was the problem? I just don't want to have to pay a repairman. Warranty is over.My Blog: http://amysreallife.com

Has your thermostat gone out or could one of the heater coil things gone bad? Our electric dryer used to do that and the problem was that one of the heater coil thingies was bad.

Ours is gas and did this about 2 months ago, I think that it was one of the belts, I'll have to ask dh when he gets home.

Our vent was overdue for a cleaning (dh used a shop vack through the vent on the side of the house). It made the thermostat register too hot so it kept turning off the heating element. HTH

I wouldn't know what to tell you Amy, except to check the belts (already mentioned) or clean out the vent running from the outside of the house to the dryer (already mentioned). I had DH clean our vent because I worry about the lint buildup that I am not able to get out. Of course we have a lint trap and I clean it constantly, but the little pieces that fall down into the vent scare me. I have heard of house fires starting because of this, so I make him pull the dryer out and take the back off to make sure it gets a good cleaning from time to time. This may also be causing it to get hot and shutting off.

DH just fixed our dryer, here's a good place to get parts.

We had that happen, but ours is electric. Could be the same prob though, I'm sure. We had a wire that had shorted. It was rubbing against the drum when it turned and had melted straight through. It was a really easy fix, we just had to get a small length of wire to fix it with. We have to do this once every three or four months.
