refilling ink cartridges?
Does anyone refill their ink cartridges vs. buying a new one? Curious your experience with it.

Horrible experience with it. Mel decided that we needed to refill our own ink cartridges since dd went thru so much ink. One day while I was at work, he proceeded to make an enormous mess on my kitchen counter doing this. It did not go well and we ended up tossing the whole thing away and going to buy ink cartridges. I have also heard of people who do it and have no problems. I wasn't there to see why it was such a mess, but it took rubbing alcohol to clean it up.

I've done it several times. I found the best way to do it was to save an old pizza box or aluminum pan and contain the possible mess there. I ordered a kit and did mine for my other printer......it was much cheaper than buying new like 1/10th for just the kit and it had tons of refills in it. I also now have to say that I've just bought new ones for my newer printer....I need to try to refill next time. The one thing that you need to remember is that sometimes they leak just a bit before they seal off....so you want to keep it in the said container for a few hours before transferring to the printer. Also I kept an extra "new" cartridge on hand for emergencies.

I did years ago, and it did not work well..
There is a new business in town where you take in your old cartridge and they refill it for about 1/2 the cost of new... That has worked great!
I think that maybe Office Max or Office Depot may offer the same service????

I never have, but a friend tried and she said it was a huge mess.I haven't been brave enough to try.

I was considering the service not here at home. I can see where something could go very wrong here with two small kids. lol
I'm going to look into it. They cost a small fortune and we go through so many. ughIf you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. DH does ours with no problem at all. The only thing we find is that the refill does not last as long as buying a brand new cartridge.

We have never tried refilling cartridges. But we get our cartridges from Ebay and save alot of money that way. They are good cartridges and alot less than buying them in the store.

We don't refill our cartridges at home but take them to a local shop, they're pretty good value, they have slightly less ink in them I think but it saves us a lot of money.

DH has refilled them for awhile. he first tried the red one, and over filled it, nearly covered his hands in ink. It looks alot like blood, by the way and takes several days to wear/wash off. It looked like he did a bad job, trying to comit suiside. Don't over fill those things.........

The service should guarantee their work. If not you can probably find one that does. Do you have Ink Jet Island there?
Glass cleaner works great at cleaning up the ink.

I have done the refill thing and it wasn't too bad of an experience. The ink doesn't seem to print as well though.
