    Default Frugal Great Depression Essay

I always find it helps me to remember how lucky I am by reading what it was like during the Great Depression.

I love the essay. It reminds me of the many stories I've heard from my own parents who lived through the depression. My father's family lived on a farm and at least always had enough food. My mother's parents were teachers, not well paid then or now, and frequently had meals of fried potatoes and nothing else.

One of my favorite stories of my mother's is about an upcoming high school sports banquet (she played basketball in high school) and how she desperately wanted a new dress to wear. My grandmother had been given a box of funeral shrouds from her brother in law, an undertaker, and with her treadle sewing machine she made one over into a beautiful dress for my mother to proudly wear to the banquet.

Thanks for sharing this! I live in Utah near Provo (that is mentioned in the article) so this was very interesting to me.
