    Question Does anyone else?

water down their laundry soap or dish soap in the bottle? I do it because it seems like I always pour a capful, so if it is watered down it is just like cutting the amount in half. It still seems to work the same. I was just wondering!

    I do sometimes.

Not only does it last longer... but it works basically the same.

i've done dishes and clothes using hair shampoo before (cuz i ran out *sigh*).

It works... unless you've got some majorly dirty (think boys & their clothes) clothes... I'd use the full potency! *lol*

But I think it also depends on the brand you're using. Some already water theirs down... and you wouldnt want to water down what's already been so.

I'd read the label & make sure. If it's a brand name - I'd say go for it.
If it's a cheaper brand (like at a dollar store or something) - I'd test it a few times & see how the clothing smells.

Otherwise, I've never found a problem with watering down detergents.

Yes I have especially for laundry soap. Its amazing how little you really need to clean clothes. Its interesting because I read once its the agitation that cleans the clothes more than the soap does.

I have also done it for dish soap.

No, I don't water it down, I just use less than the directions call for.

Yes, I do but not in the bottle (because they are some loads when I use it full strength!) I measure out one capful, pour it in a plastic cup, then measure out a capful of water, put it in the same cup, swirl it around, and do two loads of laundry.

My DH just volunteered to do all the laundry - I can't wait to explain to him how I cut the laundry soap in half and the dryer sheets in thirds!

I water down my dishsoap but just use about 1/3 of what they call for in laundry soap. For dirtier loads, I put in a tablespoon of washing soda and soak it for a while (like overnight if there has been big gardening).... hand soap I've just started to leave open so that it hardens and lasts a bit longer.

I've also done dishes with shampoo, but I've also washed my hair with dishsoap... cuts grease they say.....

I've never watered down my laundry soap. But I do use considerably less than they call for. A whole bloody cap for your day to day laundry?!!! No bloody way! I use about half a cap full for a full wash, about a 1/4 for a medium load, and on the rare occasion that I do a small load or a delicates load, I use just a little bit on the bottom of the cap.

I read once, I believe it was somewhere here in this lovely group, that if you use as much soap as they call for, you could do your next load with no soap at all and the clothes would come out just as clean.

    Bright Blessings!
