$49,000 a year and he is "getting by"??? There are many people who live in his area who support a family on that! Good ideas--let's hope people follow his tips.

I think the point is that he is getting by on LESS THAN what he takes home - not the absolute number. If he paid off a lot of the debts he had, and I'm sure he's probably paying ahead on his mortage, etc.

Woohoo, another one that agrees with stockpiling a good deal
(can he make my hubby understand that?)

Even though so many of us follow many of his ideas already, it never hurts to revisit them, as they are done by someone else.

I saw this article posted on another board (Simple Living discussion forums) with several others there living on much less too. What I got from the article though was that I was encouraged saving and frugality is interesting enough now to be written about! I also admire him for changing his habits. That is hard no matter what your income. A poster at the other forums mentioned that there actually was a link to comment and he/she (can't recall) wrote in and the newspaper apparently interviewed that person too (for a followup?). That person was a SERIOUS frugal enthusiast. I hope that gets written up too.
I love to see articles in the paper about simple and frugal living. It might just touch someone who practices none of the habits listed and change a life.
