Interesting article. I'm quite sure we (here at the village) could all meet the "feed 4 people one meal for less than $20" challenge, though. Around here, we'd have to expand that to a whole day or more in order to make it challenging!

Loved that article! My DMom almost starved during the depression. She went for over a year eating 1 hamburger a day that she got free at work. She said a real treat for her was to put milk and sugar over bread. I am trying to wean my family off some of their more costly food tastes. I think we just have too much to chose from nowadays. I'm trying to get my shopping and cooking down to just basics.

$20.00 for ONE meal??? I make a meal for $2-3.00 regularly. We need to teach these folks something about REAL frugality!

Well, it sounds like they had to buy their spices and seasonings w/ their $20.

Good article! I agree with the above posters, though, about making a whole day for $20!

On a side note, while watching reports on the National Hockey League strike, and talking to DH about the players making millions, I told him, "Give me a million dollars, and I'll feed all the players and their families for a year." He just laughed at me!
