Question What frugal tips have you heard that you just can't do?

We've all read or heard about a frugal tip that just doesn't work for us personally... care to share?

    For me, there are two:

I can't do all my laundry in cold water... I have to do some laundry in warm or hot water.  I think I've been to too many infection control inservices at work- I just don't feel that underwear, pillowcases, etc, are clean unless I use warm/hot water.

I also can't skip flushing after every time I use the bathroom.  Again, it's the "cootie" factor for me.

What are the tricks you've heard, but don't use?

(And please, I don't want to offend anyone with this thread-- it's not a personal judgement!  If a trick works for you but not for someone else, that's great-- not everything works for everyone.)

I, personally, can't use the frugal feminine products. I buy all my stuff on sale with coupons so it's very cheap, (still bad for the environment, I know) but I just can't do the menstrual cup or homemade pads. People who use them LOVE THEM, but it's just not for me.

Wash and reuse baggies. (I've tried it a couple times and ended up throwing the baggies out w/o using them the second time.)

I won't hang out "undies" on the clothesline.

I won't use cheap laundry soap. I use Tide only.

And I won't use many "no name" brands although they are cheaper.

I won't use the "keeper", or sew my own feminine napkins.

I can't bring myself to cloth toilet paper. I like flushing it away.

LOL, yeah they do. They keep them and one of those peri-bottle type bottles for "rinsing" and wash them with cloth dipes.

Oh, another I can't do, is the composting toilet. They look awesome, but I am too much in mind of a port-o-pot, and I like my smell-free toilet.

I can't use homemade feminine products. Most end up free anyways with coupons, sales, doubling

Wash baggies...I do some, but not all....same with foil,I have washed a piece or two that had maybe bread wrapped in,but most of the time,I dont wash and reuse either

We flush after every use. Katie and Steve (he does put the seat down though ) are the worst about not flushing

I won't buy off brand cheese.Kraft or velveeta please...

Might be more, but this is all I can think of right now.

I won't give up my soda for drinking at work (can't stand city water, and I need the cafeine!

Don't need to worry about the femine products for me (post hyster) but I won't ask my dd to use a diva cup or cloth pads.

    1. I won't reuse vacuum cleaner bags (too dusty).

    2. I won't put food scraps in a container in the freezer until it's full and then make soup from it. (Tried that once and it was nasty!)

    3. I won't postpone flushing the toilet.

Other than those, I can't think of much more I would not do. I've tried a lot of things to save money but don't do them simply because of convenience. It's nice knowing what I CAN do in the event money gets really tight. I always fall back on my old tricks and then I feel so smart!
