    Default sink savings...

This is something I do that never occurred to me. Dh had a day off today, noticed me doing it and pointed it out. He asked why I do it and it made me think others might be interested too.

I have a rectangular shaped tub that fits into my kitchen sink. (my sink has two basins, I only have a tub in one side.) When I an running water for any reason, I run it over the tub, trapping the water in the tub while i am... say washing my hands or getting cold water for a drink, or getting hot water for something. I keep filling it this way over the course of a day, and by the end of the day, I have enough water in the tub from trips to the sink to use for rinsing plates/ dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. That water would have otherwise been wasted down the drain, doing me no good.

Also before I walk away from the sink, I make sure to turn the faucet to be over the tub, so even the drips add to the tub if i don't tighten the knobs just enough.

    neat idea.
i used to keep a plastic dish under the water turn off knob to one of the toilets. it had a small leak and it took forever for teh landlord to send someone out to fix it. i saved teh water to water my plants.
