Question Frugal ideas found, that you want to try or do...

Are there any frugal ideas that you have been wanting to do, but haven't yet?? How about sharing them here and maybe impementing them in the next few days or weeks and let us know what you have wanted to, or will be trying to do? Then let us know if it will be something that you have now adopted as a part of your frugal lifestyle... Small or big, it all counts in the end, right?

For me it will be.. Making breads(of some sort) from scratch, granted it may just be muffins or biscuits, but I want to make at least three batches in the next week or ten days.. And truely sticking to my menu planning for the next two weeks.

Sorry if this sounds silly, but after reading the thread about what you won't do, even as frugal as you want to be, it made me think that there may be some of you who aren't sure about doing certain things, and maybe this could be your "trial period". Nothing set in stone, just get your toes wet....

There are a few things that I want to try, I know many members already do these things, but since I work full-time I don't have as much free time as I could.

The first is baking - I usually bake something on the weekend, but I have yet to find enough time to bake enough to replace the bread we go through on a daily basis.

The second is homemade laundry detergent and cleaners - right now I have enough cleaning supplies to last me the next 5 years, and laundry soap for the next 10 - so that just isn't a high priority. I figure up what I have is probably more frugal.

I'd like to save paper towel rolls, cut them into thirds, squash them to make the circle into a square and make tiny boxes to plant seeds into. I saw this on a gardening forum and it looked like a great new way to recycle paper towel rolls.

I'd like to mix up a batch of "homemade" pergo floor cleaner to use on the kitchen floor. The store bought stuff is quite spendy!

Haven't tried it yet, but here are some "recipies":

    Cleaning Solution for Pergo Floors
-Equal parts of vinegar, rubbing alcohol, water.
    or
-1/3 cup of each, vinegar, water, rubbing alcohol plus 3 drops dishwashing liquid
    or
-one cup white vinegar and one gallon cold water
    or
    -windex cleaner

Not sure which recipe I'll try first.

I'd like to learn to make my own pastas. I like the flavored ones and they get expensive buying htem in the fresh veggie area. I like the ones with the flecks of spinach, or sundried tomatoes, carrot, etc right in the pasta. YUM.

I'd like to learn to make baguette rolls, we got through these like mad. I'd like to get a bead machine (my secret want for the last few years!). And use it a few times a week to make fresh breads.

I'd like to try making the homemade laundry soap. I do a lot of from-scratch baking -- I make at least 4 loaves of bread a week, depending on weither I see my best friend (he adores my homemade bread ) or have any company over. I also make my own cleaners -- vinegar and baking soda. But the laundry soap thing... hmmm...

    Bright Blessings!

~ I'd like to get a dehydrator and start dehydrating fruits for healthy snacks.

~I'd like to make a coldframe from recycled windows to start plants in and extend the growing season.

~I would like to get back to baking more because it is so much healthier (I use my own freshly ground flour) but since I found that cheap bread at the bakery for 6 loaves for 3.19. This includes pizza shells, tortillas, bagels you name it.....I have stopped baking. Also, I don't like baking in the summer TOOOOO hot.

~Iwould like to forage for more food including wild edibles.

~Iwould like to go on daily walks (for exercise) and pick up cans/bottles for recycling.

    ~ I wish I could grow BASIL!!!!!
