What is a freedom account?

I love this idea, and do have several savings accounts for different purposes. So far, Property Taxes & Insurance, Gifts (including Christmas), Replace Appliances and Computer, and Replace Car. The money goes in automatically every week or month, to ING savings accounts. It works really well.
I'd like to have more funds set up, but it gets to be a hassle having actual separate accounts. I really like the idea of keeping track of different funds within a single checking or savings accounts.
I've come across several different ways, and wondered if anyone had used them successfully. I hate to spend $30 or a monthly fee if I don't have to!
http://www.budgetmap.com - Special check registers that give you a column for each category. $30 plus shipping for book and first three registers.
http://www.mvelopes.com - An online service that lets you keep the same kind of categories. Has a monthly fee.
http://www.montana.edu/wwwpb/pubs/mt8703.html - the Montana Cooperative Extension people have instructions for setting up your own check register to do this, and sell them made up very cheaply, too.

PRG, I have been looking for that last one for a year now! Thanks! I use that system. I had it bookmarked in my x's computer and forgot to write that website down when I left. I really like that system and it's free. I'd always felt I couldn't use budgetmap without paying for it. The two systems are pretty similar.
