    Default Free cycle anyone?

    Hi Everyone,
I am new to this site, I love it! Very inspiring.
I just signed up to start a branch of Freecycle in my home town. I'm kind of curious if anyone here has used Freecycle and what you think of it.
It seems like a great way to get those much needed items for free plus help out other folks in need.

In case anyone doesn't know freecycle is a website where people list items they know longer need and share them with people who can use them. The only stipulation is everything must be free.

    Best wishes,
    Sue

I've used freecycle to get rid of some things, but I have never gotten anything from it. It seems lately that most of the posts are things people want not offers. And, offers are snapped up so fast I never get in on anything. It might be different where you are.

I'm a member of two local groups. I usually just post stuff to get rid of. I haven't done much in awhile. I almost never look anymore because I got tired of the ridiculous "wants". I mean things like brand new vans or hot tubs? Give me a break I'll probably list more stuff this summer as I'm decluttering.

I've given and gotten with our Freecycle. There is a lot of complaining on ours. People mad when people don't show up, mad when things are given away too quickly (whining about not being on-line enough to catch the good stuff), mad when people use all CAPS because it's considered yelling, mad when people post wants. Ours is huge with a lot of membership. It might be friendlier in a smaller community.

I think it is a great idea and the spirit of it, when people have the right spirit, is wonderful! Good luck with yours!

I have been on both ends of giving and receiving. (I actually wound up gettin a hot tub that was offered!...now we gotta get our yard finished so we can set it up) I have gotten rid of soooo much...couch, chairs, tables, appliances, and on and on.

Because of an issue (i can't remember what the issue was) with the name of FreeCycle, our citywide group succeeded from the "Freecycle" group and now runs under a different name...but same idea, same general rules. I love it, under both names I have acquired some wonderful items. And I have been able to give people the things that they wanted.

The whole idea of Freecycle is great if it probably works in some areas...its nice that you are starting one in your area..

I've only listed on Freecycle once and had someone snatch up our couch and loveseat. I think they came out the very next day and picked it up.
