Do you splurge on clothing for yourself?
I am just curious about spending money on clothing. I have really cut down this past year on buying myself new clothing. I have been shopping the thrift store and goodwill and finding some really nice stuff. I recently went from a sz 12 to a sz 8. So a lot of my clothes I have gotten rid of because they were too big and all stretched out looking. This past weekend I splurged a little and bought a few outfits. I felt so good in those clothes it was amazing!! I felt a little guilty about spending the $$ though. I feel guilty because I know we could use that money to pay down debt. I don't have a clothing budget as of right now, maybe that's what I need. I am 29 years old, I will be student teaching in January, and just losing the weight, I just feel like I need to update my look a little. I was just wondering what you ladies think about buying clothes. I know a lot of you shop yard sales and thrift stores. Do any of you buy new clothing? and do you feel guilty spending money on yourself?

I don't feel guilty for buying good clothes. I know that when I feel good the people around me benefit. (specifically DH) I like to buy clothes at a good price, but when I need new clothes, particularly for work, then I buy what I need. I also only buy things that will last and aren't going to go out of style in a few months.
Congrats on losing the weight! You deserve to feel good about yourself!

Congratulations on the weight loss! You deserve to buy new clothes, something you feel good in and look good in!! I think it is ok to splurge on yourself once in awhile! You go girl!!!
I felt the same way when I lost weight. I felt guilty for spending money on myself to buy new clothes, but DH took me and made sure I bought something new. It sure changed my attitude.~*Michelle*~

I rarely buy new clothes for myself, but I also am not working outside of my home either. I buy new shoes, jeans, and dress clothes etc as needed, but casual stuff I buy at the thrift store.
I never feel guilty for buying clothes because I don't do it very often and when I do, I make it count. lol
I don't go cheap on shoes, but I also don't buy them all the time.
I spend good money on undergarments because I like to.
I've lost a lot of weight too, but still had a stash of clothes from when I was this size.
With Gabe working we do both. The kids we do both too.
If I was going to go back to work, I'd go shopping for some new clothes, but I'd still mix and match with my thrift store clothes because they are nice too.
Congratulations on your weight loss and enjoy your clothes.

Congrats on the weight loss!!
Last week I went shopping for new clothes. I LOVE new clothes. I will wear clothes from a thrift store, but around here everything I find is for older people (I'm 26). I do feel guilty if I spend more than I should, though.

Congratulations on the weight loss!
I hate shopping and buying clothes. I honestly do not remember the last time I bought clothes for myself. I don't enjoy the process at all, and would rather just take good care of the clothes that I have so I don't have to buy new ones.My Blog: http://amysreallife.wordpress.com

I rarely buy anything for myself - except books
- I pick up some nice things at thrift stores occasionally. Usually if I want something important and really good quality I just ask for it for Christmas. I do not actually enjoy trying on dozens of outfits or shopping in general. I don't fault those who do though

Congrats on the weight loss! I usually buy my clothes off of ebay oron sale at Kohl's. I do splurge on bras because I am chesty and need a good bra. I generally get good basics too - like dress pants and basic shirts from Lands End. They are well made and last longer. Dresses and such for Sundays I get off of ebay. I usually buy good tennies and sandals too since I live in them. Dress shoes I go cheaper because I only wear them on Sundays.

I just went this past weekend and bought alot of new clothes as all my clothes were 3 years or older and starting to look it. Some even older then that.
I only buy new clothes for myself as I am not comfortable buying clothes that I don't know who wore them. If someone I know gives me clothes I have no problem wearing them
All my clothes last me for years

I've been buying clothes lately because I'm in a new relationship that requires going out and doing things I've never done in my life
and I need to wear clothes (at least most of the time
) and since I don't have appropriate clothes, I buy them. I try to be as practical and frugal as I can.

When I first stopped going out to work I stopped spending any money on myself. However I too have recently lost weight and so it's been a necessity.
Because I did feel guilty at first about spending money I have been very careful about what I've bought. I buy some expensive items that I can justify on a cost-per-wear basis and other more fashion for this year only pieces I buy cheap. I either buy on the high street or at an outlet mall. I'm not a big fan of shopping either so I choose well so I don't have to return... I look after things too (unless they come into contact with a little bunny mouth) Having good underwear is important to me too, even if it is elusive just at the moment.
Also DH wants me to have things that I like rather than things that are just practical, it makes us both feel better if we are looking as good as we can when we go out together. I will wear clothes that are a little too big for me when I'm at home, but one of our things is that when we leave the house we make the most of it - whether we are at the grocery store, the rugby or anywhere else.

Most of my clothes are from thrift stores. When I do buy new clothes, they're almost always off the reduced rack.
No guilt here!

I do alittle of both. I am a larger size and have gained weight so it is sometimes hard to find things at thrift stores. But I do buy as much from them as I can. I also buy clothes new as needed but I do feel guilty spending the dollars. I just try to shop only the good sales and to limit what I buy.
congrats on the weight loss! I think that is a very good reason to splurge alittle!

Thanks everybody! It does feel good to have lost weight and be able to buy a smaller size! Being a stay at home mom I haven't needed a whole lot of dressy clothes. But we are going to church regularly now and I am starting to feel like I should "dress for success" when I go to my education classes. Even when buying new I still look for bargains and sales. I would rather buy some things here and there to have when I start my career, rather than to have to go buy a new wardrobe at one time.
