Made the half/leap: cable tv

Hello,

I made the half/leap into getting rid of the unnessasary cost of cable tv. We went down the the bottom basic package for $11.50 a month instead ofthe $40 per month. TV is not a value in our family but sometimes I like to "veg" after DD goes to bed. Now i can veg to pbs...maybe learn a few new things and save some $$. Next year this time we might be finished with TV all together.

Actually, tv is not so bad but I find the commercials to much.

regular package: $40 pr month
basic: $11.50
Total savings per year: $342

WTG! Only today DH and I decided to disconnect cable altogether. At $45 a month,we decided it's just not worth it. Total savings each year:$540.00!
We'll have service for the next 6 days,because that is when we are paid up to,so we'll tape as many of the kids shows as we can. Then they can watch them as they want to and we can borrow free movies from the library.

DH and I gave up television last October - we sold our TV set and did not replace it. Its probably one of the best things we've ever done. We read more books and go on more long walks in the evening. It has also helped with curbing spending - I don't see and ad for it, I don't know about it, I don't want to buy it. (Note: we don't have kids)

As for movies, we sometimes watch DVDs at my in-laws. We are in the process of selling a lot of our DVD collection (though not all).
