When did potatoes get so expensive?
At the beginning of the summer I was able to get potatoes (white potatoes) for 17c/lb sometimes loss leader sale of less than 10c/lb. But now! I go to the store and about fall over from sticker shock... 35c or more per pound
And they aren't lasting as long. I used to be able to keep them literally for weeks or months (depending on how cool & dry I kept them). Now they are literally rotting within days. All from different stores too.
Is there a blight or something on the potato crop this year?

Well, they're actually $2.88 for 20 lbs here---big surprise in potato land. But there is some trouble with a fungus (I believe) this year; it's spreading like crazy because it's windier than normal. Potatoes are less resistant to this one. And we had a very wet spring which didn't help matters.
Good news for the farmers that prices are going up, but not so hot for the consumer. Hopefully though, once harvest time comes around, it'll go down.
Did you know that potato harvesting is an actual holiday in Idaho? And school kids get out of school to help with it? I was blown away when I heard that.

Our average price here is $.99 per pound for loose potaotes or $2.99 for a five pound bag.($.60 per lb.) They are not great quality in the stores so I always try to get them at the farmer's markets where they are a bit more expensive!

Around here a 10# bag is $2.99. I remember when I lived in Colorado you could get a 20# bag for the same price!
