I don't figure in my time as an actual figure. If it seems to take too long & I feel stressed & the savings aren't exceptional, I just don't do it.

I have more time than money, though, so it's more freely spent.

I am primarily a SAHM, so I have more free time than money, also, or at least time where I can set DD at the table with her own little bowl and spoon and tell her I need her help, lol. I generally don't figure my time, because I just think to myself, well, I spent an hour doing this at home, but if I BOUGHT that much stuff, I would have to work x hours just to pay for it, plus the hour drive each way to and from work, etc... It is never even close, so I don't bother with it anymore, but I also don't generally do those things during "family time" when DH is home, because that time is even more valuable. If I can make my own whatever and keep DD busy and happy, then it is like it is free- I am caring for her (which I would have to pay someone to do otherwise) AND getting something made.

I figure the time in ONLY if I hate doing the task (so it gives me incentive to see if it's REALLY worth it)

or when I'm busy bragging about savings

but usually if I like doing something AND it's frugal, I just enjoy doing it.

I don't factor in time, because I consider my kitchen chores a hobby! I genuinely enjoy it. But for some folks, the time isn't worth it. We all have to figure out where we fall on that spectrum, where you're not aggrivating yourself just to save a miniscule amount of money.

I do not figure it in because I take a certain amount of satisfaction in making something...at least so far I do...I am still a newby! And with DH having diabetic, my and DD weight issues anything homemade that I can cut sugar and the like is a good thing for us!

I guess its different for me since I work full-time outside of home, but I would factor my time as what I make at work (minus taxes, extra $ spent on gas, work clothes - all those hidden costs of working). I haven't run the number in a while, but for me it usually runs arond $10/hr. Even figured that in, there's still a lot of things that are cheaper for me to make from scratch.
