Look at all possibilities..
when it comes to almost anything...
Last night my driver side seat just gave way... It is almost 8 years old, and when I had my accident a few years ago, I tweaked it and it was not fixed with the rest of the car... Now three years later, we cannot tell the ins. co. that it was from the wreck... So........
Dh called the dealership for the price of the new rail that the seat sits on.. They said that normally it would be sold separately, but it has gone though a design change, and they need to be sold as a set....... at 450.00 dollars
, He said thanks politely and hung up... Called the local auto supply store and they don't carry that kind of stuff and recommended a wrecking yard... We only need one rail, not two... They have one there for 35.00 as long he pulls it from the auto yard... DH said no problem, five bolts is all thats holding it in... He just saved us...415.00
YAYAYAYAYAYAYY!!! Thank goodness.....
Just to remind us to always look for alternatives....They could save you lots...Bonnie mom to

Can you believe what a rip-off a dealership is??? We just had to replace our distributor cap and they wanted to charge $900!!! Plus labor!!!
We paid $250 at a parts store. This is like a 400% markup!! A junkyard can be your best friend....

good deal
DH had to replace all kinds of stuff in his truck after the thief gutted it. (i posted about our car being stolen last year) Including a busted out pasenger side window. To get a new one from Toyota would have cost over 100 (older model) but it was bought from a junk yard for 15! Not too shabby!~~ Missy ~~

I'm thankful that my husband and father are mechanical. They've both saved me a lot of money over the years. I hear what my friends pay and I shudder to think of all the money they've spent on car repairs.
Of course, I once had a Ford Escort and had to replace the engine 3 times.

Dh was driving a metro up until apr. Almost every part it needed came from the scrap yard. Our local mechanic was happy to put in our junk yard heater etc!

Great job!!
I love getting vehicle parts from a junk yard. Not only does it save money, but you are helping the environment
Two cases:
our ford windstar headlights. OMG they are $250 EACH just for the headlight! Just a headlight! I wanted to faint! Especially after one needed replacing after I caught the side of the garage backing out (oops) and then the other a year later when we hit a deer. Both times we went to the junk yard and got one for $50.
My little chevy nova I had before I got married had a cracked windsheild. In NY state, it won't pass inspection (every year) with a crack. A new one was over $500 just for the windsheild. I found a place that would use a junker windsheild and the total cost (windsheild and installation) was $200.

Junk yards are the best.
And you know what, the insurance company here doesn't always put new parts on your vehicle if they can find used parts at the junk yard. There is only one insurance co. here in our province and its provincial. Even they know you can get cheaper parts at the junk yard!!!!
