So I have been reading her collection of articles
And I wonder if things are more about controlling every aspect of life than just being frugal.
I don't understand how reading a novel for pleasure is a bad thing. Sometimes, I just don't want to be constantly doing something productive.
I really wish there was an update on her and her family because I would really like to see how the teens deal with this. Especially in the internet, cell phone America we have now.
One more thing, I would never limit what my child could do to just one activity a week.

You're right- I always thought some of her "ideas" were nuts. I think reading for pleasure is one of the best things you can do, for instance. Everyone needs some sort of recreation to keep them from going nuts, and library books are one of mine. I always have at least five or six books out, and while they are usually non-fiction, I certainly read fiction when I find good ones.
I would love an update too. I suspect they are probably not nearly as frugal as before, but they are probably every bit as controlled.

I don't get that from her books. I *think* what Amy is trying to say is that by paying attention to the "little" things, you become more frugal, and being productive is an essential part of being frugal. At least, it is for me. I have noticed if I'm having a lazy day, things don't get done, the house is chaotic, and we end up eating out or something. lol

The reading only one story a day to the kids was a bit extreme for me. On the other hand, the TWG is fun to read. Wish there would be an update on their lives.

I limit my DSs to one outside of school activity because their time is very tight. I think this is what she is talking about.
As for reading, if I couldn't read, I would be in the loony bin!

I think it's all about what your family is comfortable with. I think she is just throwing ideas out there and you can pick and choose what will work for you. I let my kids walk to school, other's don't. I would never reuse a vacuum bag, that is over my comfort level. I don't think it's controlling, I think it's different strokes for different folks.
As for updates, she sent out yearly newsletter updates until last year. They seemed to still be very frugal.Mom to Emma, Spencer, Connor, Lily,Fletcher, Amelia and Adeline.
