wow, that's hardcore frugal living. I do respect people who can just give it all up and live like that, but I really don't think that I could. It appears to be written in teh late 70's, I wonder where they are now.

Thanks, Shell! I started reading the book, and it's fascinating - I will definitely go back to finish it. I, too, would like to know what ever happened to this "Dolly Freed" who was only 19 when she wrote this book in 1978.

I just finished reading this. Interesting stuff. Definitely frugal. Though some of the ethics are slightly disturbing...re: the chapter on dealing with lawyers. But then, some lawyer's ethics are disturbing too! You should go to Amazon.com and read their reviews of the book. They're interesting too!
I, too, would like to know what became of Dolly Freed. I've done a web-based search and can't find anything on her that is more recent.2013 Challenges

I printed this out (skipped the moonshine and meat bits to save paper and ink) and read most of it yesterday before I wnt to work. It was inteesting, but I don't think most of it is feasible today, and I don't think you could get away with it quite as easily as she claims. Maybe then, but not now. That said, I do think there was some good info in there, and it was definitely attention-grabbing.

I own this book! It's definitely a good read and I get a kick out of her writing style. I agree--some of it is a bit extreme, but there are a lot of good, sound bits of info in there too.
I'd love to talk to her today and see how much she's changed (or not).
