If you plan on purchasing anything for your home made of plastic....
Do it before January 1, 2006.
It was reported last night ANYTHING made with plastic for our homes will be going up in price drastically. In some areas there has already been a 10% increase, however the majority of items will be held at current price until Jan. (This is all due to the oil prices.)
That means ANYTHING, including toys!!!!

ok,
paint,
fertilizer,
detergents and cleaning products,
shampoo and conditioner,
lotions, are all related to petrochemicals, so I ditto, be aware of what might be affected and if you were going to buy it anyway, consider a bit extra.
plastic wrap.
trash bags
thanks for the heads up CJ

I will agree with this. I work in Plastic Manufacturing and due to the hurricanes destroying plants and the price of oil, resin suppliers are increasing prices they call it "force majeure". We have raised prices to our customers as our suppliers have raised prices to us.

Also don't forget things made with hard plastics such as flower pots, chairs, lamps, etc.
This will be WIDE SPREAD and all across North America.
This just doesn't involve the hurricanes. It was also reported because of the increase in demand of oil in countries like China, our oil prices will continue to rise, thus having a long term affect on oil products.

We've already started getting garbage bags that are on sale, and I plan to pick up some ziplock bags soon.

I've been hording plastic bags and containers with the thought that this would eventually take place. Guess its a little sooner than I thought it would happen.

Darlene, I'm not sure if they will all survive. Two of the dollar stores in Brandon are closing their doors this month. There is only one left now.

They'll probably become $ stores--not everything for $1, but everything for $2, $3, $4, etc.Originally posted by Darlene

My local dollar store has raised prices on items to 1.25 instead of 1.00. Thanks for the heads up. I did not think of garbage bags!

Hmm, reckon this could make manufacturers change their views of putting stuff in plastic containers?
That could turn out to be a good thing in some respects. You used to be able to find all kinds of jars that you could recycle as canning jars. I can tomatoes in glass mayo jars and use smaller ones like peanut butter ect for jellies. It's hard to find them now.

That's what I was wondering...what about products that are packaged in plastic. Not just food products. But plastic bags that sheets/bedding come in, or the plastic that toilet paper & paper towels are wrapped in. Even bread wrappers!Originally posted by patches
