to frugal
I have a question, I have been getting frebbies and samples for a while now and was going to use some of them for christmas gifts for the kids and family members does anyone see anything wrong with this I told a friend that i was planning on giving some gift baskets with samples and a homemade jar gift (brownies or bath salts) and she said that is was tacky I was wondering what other people thought. any thoughts on this matter would help wondering if I need to re think christmas gifts
Thanks

I don't think it is tacky at all. Placed in a basket with gifts in a jar, makes a wonderful and thoughtful gift. I learnt a long time ago not to listen to what others say. Go with your heart - that is what Christmas is all about (or any other gift giving for that matter).
A year ago when dh was retiring, I received a box with samples in from a friend. It was one of the most thoughtful gifts I got. She has also put a candle in pertaining to quilting. It sits on my tv, reminding me of how generous her gift was.

I don't think its tacky either...I think its a great idea....Why do people think that you have to spend all kinds of money at Christmas in order to look good??

1. It depends on the person. Some people I know wouldn't care for it, but they wouldn't care for anything less than a Louis Vittuon purse either. Those folks don't get Christmas gifts from me!
2. Mainstream America even thinks that shopping at Aldi is something to be afraid of. Or ashamed of. Don't let them set your values.
3. My sis has a clever friend. She shops the 2nd hand market, but NEVER TELLS. That way, when people compliment her on an outfit, there's no element of "eeeewwww."2012 Knitting in progress

I think its a great ideal. I have thought about doing this for my sisters, and making them up a bath basket. Your family member must not understand the true meaning of Christmas. It's giving from the heart not the pocket book. Well good luck, I hope she will learn from you.

I think it's a great idea as well. I just don't get the distaste for anything that's inexpensive/free

I know you can make some lovely gifts out of freebies and/or re-gifted items. You just do what feels right to you, don't listen to the nay sayers. They probably are in much worse financial shape than you are.

Count me as one that thinks it is a great idea! Sounds to me like your friend thinks money is more important than the thought. Christmas isn't about spending tons of money on your firends if you ask me

I agree...not tacky!

My mother got a gift of this sort from a friend of hers. She took out what she wanted & gave the rest to me.
I was thrilled!!
It had lots of neat stuff in it. Even some packets of Kool-aid in flavors I had never even heard of...It was great!

i get freebies with certain people in mind just for this purpose.they make great fillers for gift baskets if you just have one or two samples, or if you have a bunch, they make a great gift basket all on there own.
as far as that friend goes, now you know not to give her a gift full of neat sample. give them to someone else.wife to carl
mom to greg
sarah
and furbaby toby
