Default If you were living in a cabin in the woods ..

If you lived in a one room cabin in the woods alone (skip DH and the kids), for a year and the pantry was automatically stocked. What else would you want??

It seems like living in the "real" world, we have constant wants. If you were living isolated, would that get rid of temptation?? Would you still crave pocketbooks and clothes??
Would the size of your space pare down your wants?
Would it force you to limit a hobby to just the item you were working on as opposed to turning your hobby into an excuse for purchasing and collecting as opposed to doing??
Would it be worth lugging this possession many miles without car or cart?

If you were living isolated, would that get rid of temptation?? It depends on how serious you really were in living a simple life.

Would you still crave pocketbooks and clothes?? Clothes, no. Books I would, along with fat quarters for quilting and my treadle sewing machine. With a well good stockpile, my material and my sewing machine, I'd be content to live there forever.

Would the size of your space pare down your wants? I really don't want a lot, so any space would do for me.

Would it force you to limit a hobby to just the item you were working on as opposed to turning your hobby into an excuse for purchasing and collecting as opposed to doing?? Nope, it wouldn't force me to stop purchasing and collecting material. I'd make sure I had my treadle sewing machine and work passionately on my quilting along with taking lots of nature walks and reading late into the night. I only have one hobby and I wouldn't give it up.

Would it be worth lugging this possession many miles without car or cart? For me yes and I'd find a way to do it. I can't imagine not having books and quilting in my life.

    Interesting questions!

I can't say I crave too much material stuff now, so that part wouldn't bother me. I certainly wouldn't have need of a car then, so what I perceive as a need for a reliable car right now wouldn't be an issue in that situation.

I'd definately want reading materials though and I'd have more time to learn how to quilt....

I am a loner by nature.. I'm sure I'd get lonely for my family but other than that, I'd manage okay. That is why I'm an oddball among my friends/family . This kind of situation would drive most people I know insane. I know a lot of people who can't go 1 DAY by themselves, much less one day of not getting in the car and going somewhere. lol So they don't understand me, and I don't understand them, but it's all good

It takes all kinds of people to make the world go round. I don't like noise, hustle and bustle and constant stimulation from people and things. But that is due to my personality.

That cabin sounds like the perfect vacation spot.!

I would want books and spiritual materials also. I would also want binoculars, well fitting heavy shoes and boots and a decent supply of clothing so that I could experience the outdoors. The stye of the clothing and boots would not matter. I would prefer to have my laptop and a television with cable so I could watch public television as well as The Food Channel and HGTV. I would also want to have plenty of paper, pens and hobby materials as I am sure my creative abilities would be heightened in such an environment

I'd also want a stun gun and an alarm system as I'm sure I'd be scared!

While it sounds completely contradictory... I would want access to the internet. I need a computer anymore. I can keep myself busy around the house. I can sew and cook and clean and scrub and grow and bake and garden and all the other things that a person needs, but for the love of the GODDESS give me MSN!!!

just need some yarn and my crochet hooks, and a few recipe books and i'd be all set.

paper for letters or sketches would be nice, but not a neccesity.

    when can i move in??

I think that living the way i do now, I would have to be honest with myself and say i think i would surely want for more stuff. I'd want craft supplies. and i would want access to gardening items and tools too.

    wanted to add...

I would want things to keep me entertained and give me a routine too, so i would want a pet, perhaps a bird and dog and some poultry...ducks, chickens.

I don't think i could do it completely alone, i'd go mad. So i am not sure if i could do it as stipulated, without dh and kids, heck four days in the hosp and i though i was going to lose my mind not seeing the kids and dh all the time. I'd want a computer iwth internet too i believe.

As so many have said books! Warm, practical sturdy clothing, my cat,my dog. I too would like the internet because I like communicating with others. If I had access to chat and boards I might not go crazy. If I could take dh and kids it might be a perfect existence. At least with them there it would never be boring.
