    Default first update!

ok, i just got off the phone with a old friend, she is a great baker, she is going to bake bread, and rolls, and candies, in exchange for a quilt, and hot pads for her family!

i have also told my oldest son that i want food for my christmas present no other gifts, he thinks i am crazy but is going to do it, i will give him a list and let him buy what he wants!

what a great deal you have going with your friend.

your ds might think you are crazy until he sees how happy you are with your gift of food. my best gifts have been from my mom when she bought me groceries.

I remember one year that my father went to the local meat market and bought my grandparents (his parents) all kinds of meats and such for Christmas. They really liked it. I thought it was a fantastic idea!

    Thats great.
The first year we moved here we my SO's dad brought us 40 lbs of chicken. It was the greatest present. Although it took me 2 years to look at chicken with out getting sick.

My husband last year received a gift certificate to a local butchery and he thought it was the best gift he has ever gotten. You should have seen him... He still talks about it.

Way to go on the bartering

And as for the food for gifts, thats what we give every year and everyone love it! We raise beef and every family gets a mixed bag for Christmas I was looking through the mail the other day and could not BELIEVE the cost for Omaha steak Co steaks, 4 5oz filets on SALE for 35.00! YIKES! What do they think it is, gold? I know just what goes into our meat, it's drug and hormone free, and costs us a HECK of a lot less than 35.00 to raise 20oz, LOL!

Bartering is awesome. Make sure you're getting a ton of things though...those quilts take up a lot more time to make than baking

That's awesome! I love bartering. I hope it works out fairly for both of you and I would love to see your quilt when you're finished!
