That is FASCINATING!
I gave my kids a mini-lesson in economics from it.
Q: How much do you think it costs to make a commercial?"
The kids answered, "$1,000"
Ans: $250,000.
Then we talked about how much they pay the TV stations to put it on TV. etc.
And finding out about 'Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman' was stupefying. It makes sense that they cancel shows that don't appeal to big spenders. But I never put it together in my mind before.2012 Knitting in progress

Glad you liked it. Those kind of awareness articles help me fight my spending impulses.
I am dissappointed that our school systems are so commercialized now. How will it all end?

We're dealing with fighting a shopping mall coming to our town.
And it has been very interesting as we are now seeing the "marketing campaign" by the developers. They are talking tax dollars to the town - gee, anyone who buys that property will add tax dollars. They are putting out watercolor ARTIST renditions of what it will look like - no cars, no parkinglot, no street lights etc. They say they will improve our roads - if you think changing a street to 7 lanes, double ramps coming on and off the highway and many street lights is an improvement. Oh, and they will care about our town, volunteer on our boards and give money. Right, until they are settled in and then they will disappear and move on to the next projects.
What we are doing is counter marketing. It started as a "neighborhood problem". We are turning it into a town issue. It's not a "lifestyle center" it's a strip mall in the shape of a rectangle with a parking lot in the middle. Did you move to this town cause it was quiet town with a good reputation and good schools? What kind of town will be if we zone this for a mall - traffic cutting through neighborhoods from all the other surrounding towns, traffic on our main road, and being known as a mall town? Oh and the "upscale savy consumer" that they are looking for is too smart and savy to fall for their marketing.
