Banks for online savings accounts?
I know there's ING (BTDT and wasn't happy with them) but what others? I saw a commercial for one a week or two ago that had a great interest rate but I'll be danged if I can remember the name of it.

I think I know the one you are talking about - it's HSBC Online Savings Account: http://www.us.hsbc.com/1/2/3/persona...ngs?code=12155. It looks like it works the same way as ING, but has higher interest right now: 4.25%. I haven't used it yet, though, althought it does look attractive.

You can also use www.paypal.com I use it mainly for transactions on ebay, but they do pay a little over four percent right now. Though, the investment isn't FDIC insured.

I've never liked HSBC, they always seem to nickel and dime you with every little charge. Don't you find it ridiculous that they turned you down for a savings account, an account where you actually GIVE them money to just hold for you! It's not like a loan where they might question your paying back ability.

Yeah, I thought it was a little silly myself. They said there was a problem with my Chex report so I filled out the form to get a copy sent to me.
After looking over Emigrant Direct, I liked them a lot better anyway. LOL I applied and was accepted *gasp*
so am all set now.
Thanks, everyone!

If you have a Regions bank, their money market account is paying good interest also. I believe it is about 4.5%

If you are considering just saving with a good intrest and do not need to touch the money........ considering buying I-bonds from the us treasury. They are paying 6.75% you can buy from20 dollar bonds up to 30000 per year. I figured if you put 30k in bonds in 10 years you will make (after taxes) 47900. Not too bad if you dont need to touch the money.

I tried ING once- we needed to make a withdrawl and it took so many hoops to get the money out!
How weird HSBC they would decline you, owiebrain- it's not like you'd owe them anything!
The problem with Paypal is that if you ever have a dispute as a seller your entire acount can be frozen- and your money taken away. And it has a lot of fishing and hacking- too risky!
