    Default Turning collars

My husband wears LLBean shirts 12 months a year, 5 days a week to work. Yes we live where it is cold and this guy just doesn't get cold. Anyway, he manages to tear up the collars of these shirts after a while. So I remember that in the olden days they would "turn collars" - the the collar off the shirt, flip it around and sew it back on. I will admit I dropped it off at a tailor's to do - but $7 a shirt for the 4 shirts I dropped off is about the price of one brand new shirt. And this doubles the life of the shirts in our house. And the tailor did look very surprised at this request.

how soon after getting a new one does the collar start to get worn? if it's with in a few months, you might want to call the 800 number for llbean as they may send you a replacement. they have a fairly liberal return/replacement policy if you don't think you have gotten your use out of the shirts. if it's been a year, they probably wouldn't replace them. i had never thought about getting the collar turned around in a shirt. dh wears mostly polos to work, and when i put them on the hanger, i make the collar stand up so it's not hanging on teh hanger with it folded down. they seem to not get wear spots on them that way and i don't have to hear him grumble if it's not folded over exactly like he wants.

My husband gets lots of use out of these shirts, it's definitely not a quality issue. And he has a scruffy neck and beard which he claims - despite that our 3 years old now calls him prickles - that this has nothing to do with the eventual shredding of his shirt collars.
