interesting quote I read in an article
-- Forgo baby wipes. "One sweet mom shared with us several years ago that she reuses regular washcloths instead of disposable diaper wipes," said Michelle Jones, publishing editor of BetterBudgeting.com. "I've never been able to forget that. I do have a recipe for making homemade diaper wipes that are still disposable, but that's as far as I'm willing to go."
Ok. I purchase wipes and have made homemade wipes. I have used baby washcloths and regular washcloths too. (although not exclusively) Is there an ewww factor here that I've missed or some line I've crossed over? lolIf you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. I don't think there's much ewww factor if you are used to cloth diapering. I cloth diapered my ds but used disposable wipes -- but I know a lot of mommys who used the little baby wash cloths as wipes and just laundered them with the cloth diapers.

It never even occurred to me when my children were babies NOT to use baby wipes. Boy, does our culture ever program us to think we NEED expensive products.

There is no ewwww factor when it comes to sweet little ones. My oldest had cloth diapers and cloth wipes that were washed by yours truly. My youngest had disposable diapers and baby wipes. Same eck factor for both and neither bothered me in the least! I was always glad the little ones actually went if you know what I mean! LOL

I use cloth diapers and cloth wipes all the time. No ick factor here... for me at least! LOL!
I also have a whole stack of slightly larger washies that we use for the kids faces etc. They aren't as big as regular face clothes, and work well for quick wipe-ups. Those go in the regular laundry.

When my sister is at home, she just brings the baby into the bathroom, where she has a huge sink counter, and lays the baby down, and wipes his bottom... She then puts a little dish soap on it and rinse it out really well and puts it into the laundry... I might add that she uses white ones, so that they can be bleached clean... To her it is just as easy to do that than to go look for the wipes container (she has two other small children who are always messing with them).

There is nothing wrong with wash cloths. I used wipes just because they were easier. But I did have a baby sister 11 years younger than I am that was allergic to disposable diapers and wipes. We used white wash cloths and cloth diapers that were rinsed and deposited in a diaper pail that had bleach water in it, until it was time to launder them.

I use wipes at daycare and washclothes or paper towels (depending what floor of the house I'm on) for all but the biggest messes at home.
