What unexpected expenses are you encountering?
DH's medical plan has the insurance paying the first bunch of money then we pay the next $2000 then they kick in again. Well, we had thought we just made it this year without paying anything ourselves. I even moved my mammogram to January so we wouldn't have to pay for it. But then our 3 year old had a seizure (caused by a fever), DH called 911, ambulance came, then we spent 5 hours in the ER, chest X-rays, bloodwork, catheter, IV antibiotic drip, more bloodwork. They diagnosed her with pneumonia and said that we were right to call an ambulance due to seizure and length of time plus it took her a long time to come out of it. And they had to give her both tylenol and motrin to keep her fever under 102 degrees. It was an hour before she could follow me with her eyes and two hours before she either could or would speak or nod her head to respond to me.
Then there were two more visits to the pediatricians and two more antibiotics.
Then on the 30th, our 40 year old water heater (yup, they knew how to make them back then) started leaking. We were lucky we saw it before more water leaked out. So we replaced it and changed from electric to gas.

I'm sorry to hear about your little girl. I pray she is doing better now.
As for unexpected expenses, well, I just found this site, and shared how we have no savings but we have also never ran into a problem, example, an unexpected expense. Then lo and behold, I got a toothache, go to the ER, we have medical insurance but are not eligible for dental until Apr. Now I have a dentist appt, that we set money aside for, but I fear that he is going to send me to an oral surgeon, as the tooth that was causing me such pain, is now almost gone. I can only imagine what that is going to cost, or if there is a way to put that off until we get our dental insurance.
Not to mention that our car is starting to act "funny"!
I think I found this site just in the nick of time.....

As of Jan. 1st, the company dh works for is under new ownership. All the employees will have to get new uniforms as the current business supplying the uniforms will no longer be used and the company name changed as well. The uniforms used to be paid for entirely by dh's employer but now the new owner will only be paying for a portion of them and dh will have to pay for the rest. All this just came about a few weeks ago so we were not prepared for it.

mostly just car and kid related....and I don't know how unexpected they are as much as we just haven't had time to recover from the last one before the next one hits.

I was in the hospital in September, and DSO kept saying the car wasn't running quite right...well, he was too busy with the kids to take it to the shop, so when I got out a week later...on the way home, we blew the engine! $4,000 for an engine or trade it for a new car!
His mom came through and paid the bill for us, God bless her! We had NO money set aside, I have a ton of medical bills and my meds were costing us over $250 a month.
We ended up keeping the car, it's a Toyota Camry and only 6 years old. We're almost done paying for it, and NOW it has a new engine so should be good to go for a while.
I think most of our "unexpected" expenses are car related or medical related at this point. Oh, and this month we had to get snow tires...argh...another $300!

For us this year it was medical expenses. I had a major surgery that I knew was needed but I did not plan on it for this year. I was off work for 3 months and even though I recieved short term disability it was not the same as full pay. We are still slowly recovering from the financial aspects of it.

Wasn't expecting to have to see an oral surgeon for DS#2, but his dentist is recommending it. I am hoping that most of it is covered under dental and medical. He also has to see an orthodontist. I knew that would eventaully come about, but was hoping to hold off. I guess not.
DS#1 had 2 flat tires. We sure weren't expecting that. He has to have a vehicle because he attends an auto tech program in the mornings in another town then drives back to our local school for the rest of his classes. DH works during the day and so do I, so neither one of us could take him and bring him back.
Our tv is on the blitz. It just started acting up 2 days ago. There wasn't any warning, just went crazy. I guess it will need to be replaced soon. I am hoping it will hang on for another month until I can afford to replace it.~*Michelle*~

Our dryer quit working last night. I'm hoping that it's just the belt and I'm hoping that DH and I can figure out how to fix it.

Mine is the microwave that just blew last week. We're awaiting an estimate for repairs from where dh took it a few days ago. So, the unexpected money will either be for the repair or for a new one.

Had just finished writing out my budget for the coming year than went to go pick up my daughter from her dad's and guess what Mr. Murphy visited me again. There was something on the road and it hit my tire. So have to get a new tire and on top of that the car when I let go of the wheel goes to the right. Just wonderful!
Hope my warranty on the car will pay for whatever is making the car turn to the right.

It need the front end aligned. Something that should have been done when they put the new tire on. For us, it's usually around $100 and not under warrantyOriginally posted by rebecca

Well just came back from discount tires. Tire cost me $110.00. Have dealt with this company many years for another $13.99 a tire if anything should happen to it they will replace it. Except for vandilism or due to a mechanical problem that the tire had a problem. Yankee Mom I thought it was a front end alignment also, but when I went to get the tire fixed they said it was due to the tire I had on it until I got my new tire. After the new tire was on it, it no longer veered to the right. Thank goodness! The whole total was $171. The only thing I guess I can be thankful for is that I have an EF.
