How do you count your change?
How do you count your pile of change?
I wouldn't be able to do the change jar challenges, as I wouldn't know how much change I have added lately without counting the entire jar!
How are you keeping track??
On this quiet pseudo-holiday (DH is working, kids don't have school), I decided to count whatever was in the wine jug.
We have this plastic doo-hickey that you pour a pile of coins into and the excess coins (those over 50 pennies, $2 of nickles, $5 of dimes, $10 of quarters) fall out over the top. No technology here. And then by hand you put them in those penny rolls from the bank (hence the strange denominations for those of you from other countries wondering why those amounts) and write the account number on them.
By the way the answer was: $62!! Don't know when I last did this.

I count my change like this:
1 cent, 2 cents, 3 cents...etc.
Just kidding...I participate in the change jar challenge, but I don't count mine up until right before we go on vacation each summer. I read all of the posts to the thread, encourage people as they count their change, but don't actually post an amount until I count it up, once a year. You don't have to have a running tally if that doesn't work for you. You can just let us know when you've added to the jar.
When I do count it, I have a little cheapo plastic sorter that I got free from a school fundraiser years ago. I fill up each tube with change and then dump it into the wrapper that I have written my account number on. Take them to the bank and I'm done! I know those change counting machines are easier, but I'm stingy and don't want them taking even a tiny percentage of my money! My Blog: http://amysreallife.wordpress.com

I have seperate jars. One big jar that has all collected change that has been counted with a slip of paper to keep a running total. A smaller jar that has newly collected change that hasn't been counted yet. When I count the new change I add it to the big jar and write down the new total.

I count as I go. I like watching the amount grow, even if it's only buy a penny!!
Then I write the new total on the slip of paper!

I don't count it. I let it add up until I'm sure there is several hundred dollars and then I take it to the bank. They have a coin counter that is free.

I used to keep track of it using a slip of paper with a running total, but then other people would add money to it and not record it (or not know that I was keeping track). So now I just let it add up and count it every so often.
I am considering depositing the money quarterly (no pun intended

I keep track of change as I rob hubbies pockets for it, lol! Actually when I hear change in his pocket I hold my hand out, he knows what that means
But I take the change with me to the bank every time I go in, deposit it into checking then transfer it online into our anniversary account for a trip on our 20th. I figure we should have a GOOD amount by the time the anniversary comes around, I have 8 years to save!!
I also transfer the change amount from checking to this account after I pay bills, keeping the checking acct at an even dollar amount.
I just started this about a month and a half ago and it's growing!(see my signature line below).

I keep two containers. One is the big pb jar, the other is an old coffee cup. The counted change goes in the pb jar, I have a slip of paper in there with the total. The change from our pockets/purses goes in the cup.
I count it from the cup & put it in the pb jar. Then I add that to the total on the slip of paper and put a new total in there.
Works for me

I just throw it all in the same container and when it gets so full I sort & roll the change up and take it to the bank.
