    Instead of dialing 411 for directory assistance and paying a hefty charge dial 1-800-FREE-411. You can use it from your home phone or cell phone. It provides FREE directory assistance--the only catch is you have to listen to a 10 second ad. After the 10 second ad you can choose to be connected to the advertised service or the number that you wanted to dial in the first place. They tried it on the news and it worked. Of course, if you're calling from your cell phone you use your airtime minutes, but you aren't charged an additional fee.
