Tax returns
I was just wondering what other use it theirs on, a friend of mine blew theirs on a big screen tv and is now telling me that they have no money to pay their bills. We are using ours to add a bathroom upstairs and remodel the one down stairs and add some insulation to the upstairs and maybe get a few things on our wish list plus pay off our only credit card. dh and I are debating I want to use some of the money for stock up he is not sure that it is a good idea we shall see. This the one time of the year I seem to be able to do the remodling on my house. And when I can buy a few things that I want like some small appliances that I need to replace or that I will use but haven't got yet. I am thinking about a food saver so I can frezze more meat. and a Large mixer for the big batches of stuff so I can freezze it also. It is amazing I watch some of my friends just blow the return and then make rude comments when I spend mine as fruglaly as I can. Or use it to make repairs which will save me more money in the long run( lower heating and cooling bills), plus I am increasing my home value by adding another bathroom only have one its on the main floor adding one to the upstairs will help alot with 7 people and one bathroom it is hard some days. I just thought I would see what others use the money for and maybe get some ideas.

I sure hope I get a return this year. We make too much money and our mortgage interest was only $6700. I'm not certain that we'll make the itemization cutoff. (2% of income?)
But if we do get a return- I know my dh is going to want to save it for something. I heard him mumbling about siding on the house.
Each year it depends on what's going on. Last year we paid off a cc I had, the year before, we paid off the balance of a 401k loan that he had. So in a nutshell; we pretty much use it to keep debt free.

If we get one (which we should, as far as I know) we'll put it in savings.

We are planning on saving as much of ours as possible. We will be moving between now and summer and the house we will be moving into needs some upgrading and I hope we can get by without going into debt to do it.

We should get a small refund, which will go toward repairing the engine in our Toyota Camry, Lord willing,

WE use it to pay our property taxes and content insurance. Anything above and beyond that goes towards our summer vacation.

we work in one province and live in an another..we should get between 8000-10000 back (of money he overpays in one province off of his cheques...)
we were SUPPOSED to pay off his parents and my dad and be out of debt...but now we dont know if he'll be laid off this yr, so we'll pay off his parents credit line..but with the proviso if we NEED anything like say FOOD or RENT in between, we could borrow back...interest is like 3.5% on hers since she's a bank employee...and we have no credit...
next yr, it'll be for a down payment (if dh gets to keep his job)

Well ours goes straight to debt, we wont have any left over and since we usually get all of our state back too, that will go towards bills as well, no savings BUT atleast we are CC free!

We never get a refund, even with giving 10% of our income to charity (similar concept to tithing)!

Mine is not usually that large but it will go into savings. We are planning to fly to see my brother in AZ this summer and some of it may have to come out of savings and go towards tickekts.

I am hoping to get some money back, but DH has already allotted the total to his business adventure....
Can you tell I do not agree with this... My voice falls on deaf ears when it comes to this..
If I had a choice though, it would be to get the van work that is needed done, new freezer, new pantry, stock the freezer and pantry, get a house payment ahead, and pay off as much debt as we could.... But that won't be happening...

Ours will be used to ensure we do not fall behind on our bills during this transition time with dh's new job (and a paycut of nearly 2/3).

I hear that. We try to do that too. Got a surprise with 2 kids in college and are getting a bit more than we thought. Money is going to help pay off the new to us car we just bought. Every bit of "extra" money will be going towards it.Originally posted by FreesiaE

I'm probably going to hang onto most of mine. I'm at the very bottom end of my "buffer zone" in the bank account, plus I'll be travelling overseas before I can get my refund. I'll be putting a lot of those expenses on my credit card.
