Helping out nets good return
on your time investment! I've been helping dsis#3 get her house back in order after surgery. She's been out of commission 3 months. We've been doing some serious cleaning...a bit at a time.
So far she's passed off some old cotton shirts to me (for quilting). I figure I'll make a string quilt out of the old cotton shirt fabric and give it back to them. She also went through her fabric stash and pulled out a whole bunch of scraps to get rid of. I grabbed them quickly. There's easily .5 of a metre left of each type ... 2 fat quarters...mostly 100% cotton fabrics.
She also gave me some scrapbooking supplies she claims she'll never use. She got them from dmom. We're using them to make thank-you cards right now, but I'm taking them home with me. It includes a circle cutter, oval cutter, xylon machine (? - the thing that makes stickers), tons of cardstock and stickers.
I've certainly been paid for my time and effort I'd say! Though dh isn't going to be happy about the extra fabric coming home!

when my sister bought an expensive embroidery machine, I joked that I by default just got use of one
And my sister's silk ribbon embroidery stuff and quilting fabric I just consider an extension of my own

I'm just shaking my head here. Yesterday I visited one of dsis's neighbours and she gave me a couple jars of homemade jam to take home. I'm leaving them at dsis's. I don't want jam in my luggage. Dbil is insisting on sending me home with 10 lbs. of PEI blueberries as carryon luggage. At least I'll have something to eat if Air Canada strands me someplace!

Jennifer...with great difficulty. It's black currant jelly and strawberry/gooseberry jam. (sigh) The black currant jelly never sealed properly. The jam...well...I just can't see fitting it in with all this other stuff! As is, I came down with one bag period. I packed another bag in my suitcase 'just in case' I found something to take home. Turns out I'm going back with an extra box full of wedding gifts for dd#1 and the box of blueberries, plus both of my bags full of the other stuff. I'm afraid to buy anything more! That's two pieces of luggage in cargo and two carryon. That's all they'll allow!
