Default Got my state check & ING Account...

    Ladies,

Hubby and I got our state check in the mail which is great and has already been deposited into the bank. YAY!

I also wanted to say that I am proud of myself... Starting today I have been putting in $25 every 2 weeks (thanks to the help of my fellow Villagers who gave me the confidence) AND being that we just received our state check I took the chance and put an extra $100 in my ING account so to date I have $145.02... I am proud of myself...

On that note... here's another question that I need help with...

I want to get a part-time job working maybe 15 hours a week just to make some extra money, I dont have to pay for child care as I would work while the kids are in school and I wouldn't have to pay for gas for the car since I would try to get somewhere close by like Marshalls or Staples... BUT if I make a measly $6 an hour = $90 a week, would it be sesible to try and put away only $20 every week or $40 every 2 weeks into my ING account?

That would be $80 a month out of a net pay of only $300, does it sound like I would be cutting to close leaving myself with $220 OR should I try to put more in like $25 a week?

I really dont need to work as hubby doesn't think so but I want to try and save money and with him just working it's hard to see that happening.

Let me also just say that with hubby only working now, we are left with approx. $150 every 2 weeks for gas for the car, school lunches, etc.. But that's after paying all the bills, mortgage and putting the $25 every 2 weeks into my ING account from hubbys paychecks.

    Any advice or tips?

    THANKS!

I'd say put as much in to the ING account as you can, it will build up so fast, and you will feel so great having it, AND you can always transfer it back if needed. That way it is less tempting to maybe spend the extra $ on hand. Good luck on your job search.

I don't have advice, since I've never had an ING account, but I just wanted to say, you're doing great!

Tracy that's excellent. If you will be working at Marshall's then I would save as much as you can in your account. Also if you can, go in and ask to speak to a Manager right off to schedule an interview. You may get one right on the spot. Good luck!

I echo with putting as much as possible into savings ea. month. I mean that's really why you're considering working anyway, right? WTG so far, you're doing great!

Thanks ladies... I will be going into Marshalls tomorrow while my older son is home to watch his younger sister. That way I am not trying to sneak her in without anyone seeing her.

Oh! and I think I get a discount.. I sure hope so, what's great is Marshalls is like a 5 minute walk maybe not even that far.

Well I forgot to mention... the only reason I want to get a job is to put money away. If I can put $20 every week or more that's great, it's actually exciting... + on top of $20 a week from my paycheck I want to put $25 bi-weekly from hubby's paycheck... that's a nice chunk at the end of the year and it's earning interest! YAY!

Good luck Tracy, any money you will make is something you didn't have before so sock away as much as you can.

I have faith in you putting even more away, once you see that ING account growing you'll get hooked I know I am I love knowing that for every 100 I put in it's making another penny a day, it just keeps adding up!

Best of luck with the interview, I'm rooting for you!

    Good luck with the interview!

I think you have a reasonable goal of $20 a week in savings.
