    Default My goals for 2006

I will boost my EF to $1000

I will pay off 3 out of 4 of my CC's.

I will save $1000 for our vacation in September.

This is doable for me. It will mean I have to continue to tighten my belt, and stay OUT of Smartbargains.com and Ross Dress for Less LOL DH is having some financial issues and won't be able to contribute much to the vacation fund this year but I'm going to put whatever I get back on my taxes this year ($200 or $300) into the VF to kickstart it.

Long term goal: start saving for a house downpayment (after I pay off CC's) and contribute to my IRA

You guys have inspired me. I went grocery shopping today and I've saved my receipts. I'm okay at frugal stuff like planning meals around sales, shopping at discount stores etc. but I'm going to save my receipts and see if there's any more corners I can cut within reason.

Sounds great! That is the most important thing is having a plan. I guess I should start working on a doable plan myself. Thanks for the inspiration!

Isn't it great when you get a plan in place. It makes it much easier for me to be focused in on paying down debt if I know what exactly I'm heading towards.

My goal this year was to get three cards paid off. I have two of them paid off already so I'm doing pretty good. I just opened another one though to transfer some of the balance on the third card to too lower the interest rate. So now I have two cards that I'm trying to pay off this year.

    Good Luck with your plan.

If you keep track of all your expenses for a month, I think you'll be surprised at how much "leakage" there is. I did this for February, and it helped me see clearly where my "extra" money is going. I'm excited about seeing how much I can NOT spend in March!

Congratulations on setting your goals. I agree with other posters, it wasn't until I seriously tracked my spending that I could focus on paying down debt. It helped because you gain confidence in knowing that you will have enough money to meet you commitments and you can plug up those slow leaks that steal your money away.

    My goals are pretty easy...

    - Pay off the rest of our CC's before 1/2007
    - Save $500 for vacation in August
    - Continue to put in $25 every 2 weeks into my EF fund (ING), will try to put more as I can
    - Continue to be frugal

That is my main goals right now and I plan to stick to them. I am determined.
