Couple things I do are~ looking in the scratch & dent section & I also wait til the store has it's big canned good sale.
I usually buy the generic brand of cream of whatever to use in my cooking. Do like the name brand (or homemade)for sipping though.

I always buy the store brand. Target inparticularly has a great store brand.

I also shop Aldi's a lot which is a very low cost.

If it's a great sale, think about how much you can use. I made the mistake last year when name brand canned salmon was on sale for $1 a can-down from over $2.50 a can and cheaper than store brand. I only bought 10 and I use 2 cans each time. Well, I ran out of salmon in a couple of months and have not seen it on sale since. I should have bought much more at that price.

I buy in bulk on sale-- Meijer's is the best deal for me.

If there's no sale and I'm low in supplies, I go to Aldi's to stock up.

I know this thread is a little old, but when we visit my Inlaws in Northern IN. we go to Mennonite owned stores where they sell only dented can and box items....we will get 2 big boxes of groceries for 35.00! And most of the stuff is cheaper than Save A Lot or Aldis...and name brand!

I generally wait for a really good sale - we have a scratch and dent section in our grocery store, but usually a sale on the generic cans beats it.

We also stock up when they do go on sale.
