Re:Airmiles..mainly for canadian members
Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone else on this forum collects the airmiles points from the various grocery stores and vendors here in Canada?
Today I recieved in the mail 2 20$ gift certificates for Sobey's here in Newfoundland. I will use those 100% for my stockpile.
I guess mainly they are used for airline tix but I dont plan on traveling anywhere so my dh has said I can use them for this purpose.
I've also signed up for PC Financial at our local Dominions Grocery store so I will have free chequing and collect PC Points for free groceries. This will also supplement our stockpile.
Last night we went to sobeys and by shopping the sales and having my stockpile list I was able to actually start my stockpile AND collect a total of 73 airmile points. Here in the Atlantic Provinces 140Points=20$ gift certificate.
I also do this with my shoppers drug mart points. At one time I have enough points for 150$ worth of items but we had to use that during this last six month..our lean period.

We do, although we don't use it often.
We also use Shopper's Drug Mart points often.

I forgot Canadian Tire money. We get 7.5ยข a litre when we get gas at their gas pumps. It really adds up quickly.
We've converted our Zeller's points to AirMiles as well.

I've converted my zellers points to airmiles too but here in St. John's the two Zellers are really far from me so I dont go there anymore.
I do have the Cdn Tire money also in fact I store them in an old wallet so they wont all go astray
I dont think I ever did anything like this when I lived in the U.S but I love collecting those points up here now

In Saskatoon, the gay bar takes canadian tire at face value for cover and drinks. Fun fact. I collect PC points(plus a GREAT rate on my little savings acct) Shoppers Point and Airmiles. The local PC store here has a gas bar that gives .05 a litre back in "superbucks" so I collect those and get money off my groceries.

When we lived in Manitoba, I hardly ever got Airmiles--I rarely shopped at Safeway. Once we moved to New Brunswick, I collect them a lot faster, since I prefer shopping at the Sobey's in our town, rather than Superstore. I cashed in 700 miles and got $100 in Sobey's GC's. I still have $20 left.
I have tons of Zeller's points, but the rate of exchange for Airmiles seems quite low to me, so I've just hung on to them. I keep hoping that they will have something amazing in the rewards catalogue that I'll want.
CT money is in a little envelope in the glove compartment of our van. I keep forgetting to take it into the store with me, so we just keep adding to that as well. Maybe I'll use that to buy seeds for the garden this year.
One note about CT money--a couple of years ago, we bought my dad a present from there. The store we went to didn't have one in a box, so we went to a different store. Their price was higher than the first store, and when we told them, the lowered the price, plus gave us 10% of the purchase price in CT money. We ended up getting over $9.00 that day! Sure boosted up our envelope!!
Moral of the story--price match!!

Hello everyone! I am new to this website but I wanted to say how much I am enjoying everyone's responses. They are very informative and inspirational! I live in Ontario and I collect Airmiles, Aeroplan miles, and Canadian Tire money. My husband is self employed and uses a CIBC credit card for business expenses. This allows us to earn Aeroplan miles. I also use my airmiles for rewards like grocery gift certificates. I do notice that in order to obtain the airmiles I have to shop in more expensive stores to earn them and I therefore wonder if it is a savings in the long run?? Does anyone else know?
