I saved big bux at the pharmacy today
DH and I both work and both have health insurance through our employers. He became eligible for his health ins. just at the end of last year. I haven't used it until yesterday because I wasn't having any major health issues. So I go to the Dr. and get a Rx. I had some other monthly meds waiting for pickup at the pharmacy so I go to the pharmacy for all of them.
For the new Rx I told the lady that I've never had that medication before and I wasn't sure if my insurance covered it or not, but I have secondary ins. too and I gave her the card. She typed all the info into her puter and says Good News! Your copay is zero, your first ins. covered all but 60-something dollars and your second ins. covered the rest. I told her that I had some other Rx's to pick up, would she mind running them through the 2nd ins. also? I got out of there with four Rx's for ten bucks! My copay on the other three Rx's would have been around $75. I saved $135 today! Sweet!
I'm really glad we have double coverage right now, and not just because of the Rx savings today. DH took full advantage and just had over $3000 of dental work done and when all the dust settles we should be paying very little of that, according to the dentist's billing person. And I have to go in for a test that will be around $3000 and most of it should be covered, I'll find out more after I schedule the test.
DH's insurance is free to us, his employer pays all of the monthly premium. My insurance costs $155/month for both of us. Our original plan was to drop my insurance when his kicked in to save money. But then I started hearing about people really struggling and/or going bankrupt when hit with major medical problems even with insurance, so I told DH we should keep both and he agrees. I think we're saving money in the end with this strategy.“When you get to the end of all the light you know
and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller
“Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
there are signs that the world is speedily
coming to an end;
bribery and corruption are common; children no
longer obey their parents;
every man wants to write a book and the
end of the world is evidently approaching.”
— From a translation of an inscription on
an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

So glad you checked to see what you could do with your secondary insurance.
