    Did you catch this one:

"The average U.S. family of four spends nearly $240 a month eating out," the cookbook notes. "

CAN YOU IMAGINE!!! That's a car payment! Or a nice nest egg worth!

That number disturbs me definitely, but I know that there were months when we spent that. I wish we had made better decisions and were in a different financial boat. I love to eat out, but I can see how much further ahead I'll be if we don't. I cringe to think of how much money we wasted doing so. Especially with a family of four. A sit down dinner somewhere can easily run $40 or more and if you do one a week, that puts you up there. Now I think of how many groceries I could buy for that $40

Yes, I have been working hard to make a few dinners ahead of time so my family has a good meal on the days I work.

I work as a cashier in an "upscale" casual dining restaurant. I am always shocked at how often I see the same families and couples eating there two or more times a week! One single lady eats there twice a day EVERY DAY except Sunday when we are closed. The average price for one person to have dinner, a soft drink or coffee, and leave a 15% tip is $14. For a family of four, the bill can be $40-50. Yikes! Even more if they order dessert.

We only dine out about twice a year, and even then we make frugal choices, like going for lunch instead of dinner, drinking water, etc.

This week, I made my menu and I plan to stick to it! How is everyone else doing at "eating in?"
