    Interesting.

When my children were younger the way I taught them about money was to have change laying around the house. Several times a week I would clean my purse and put the change in different rooms on the night stand, coffee table, kitchen counter. Whichever child found it and could count it exactly right got the money. They learned the actually coins and how to count money. Good math skills but also learned to budget because they would look for an item they wanted. And they saved until they could buy it.

Both of my children are savers. One puts his money in his bank account (saving) and the other keeps his money in a big coke cola bank. He is 14 and that is his car fund. He has hundreds of dollars in there already.

Thanks for the link! It reminded me of a story my parents tell about me when I was about 2. When they told me we couldn't do something (like get ice cream most probably!) I would say, "Just go to the Owl" (the ATM). My younger sister at about the same age would say "Just write a check!" Fortunately my parents got wiser about money and also taught us about money. There's no OWL to bail me out now.

Great article, thanks! My eldest son use to think money came from bank machines for free. He'd say 'just go to the bank machine to get money, it always has money'. He was disappointed to hear the truth LOL

I remember when my son was young, and I was quite a spender, on the rare occasion that I would tell him we didn't have enough money to buy something, he would say "Just go to the bank (ATM) and they will give you more!". We have since changed our ways (due to DH lay-off) and have had much more discussions that we need to PUT the money in first before we can just take it out. Also, my son used to think that the only way to buy something was with a credit or debit card. Ahhhh, memories!
