Just one more reason to not use your debit / credit card at a fast food restaurant-let alone a DRIVE THRU!!!!!!

A friend of mine was charged $200.00 to his debit card for his $7.00 meal at Fazoli's last fall. He didn't notice it had happened and he believes that it was someone trying to take some money.

His wife, who is over the accounts, found the charge. He and his wife called the restaurant, the head honchos and the main company to get the money back. He finally got the money back.

You know what else? He said that no one ever apologized to him! Not once!

    I haven't eaten there since.

A few years back, we were at a restaurant and the person ran up the debit slip. Normally, I check them carefully, but this one time I didn't. I started getting overdraft notices a week or so later. Well, the girl had charged me 121.34 instead of 11.34!!! She had hit a 2 in her sequence! They restaurant took care of the overdrafts and apologized profusely. You can bet I check thos slips very carefully now.

DH is the only one with a debit card, and he's no longer allowed to use it. We've had crazy stuff happen with it. When he first got, he had a nasty habit of leaving his receipts behind. He ate a lunch out at a Bennigans. The waiter apparently decided to give himself a $24 tip. We got that straightened out.

Another time I went to the bank to deposit a $400-something check, and I asked for $20 cash in return. The teller said I had insufficient funds to do so. That made no sense since I knew we had money in the account, not to mention I was depositing over $400. Turns out that someone had gotten hold of DH's debit card number and was charging up a storm on QVC, and they'd cleaned us out and left us in the negative. I told the bank that it wasn't us. We didn't even have QVC on our TV. They gave me QVC's phone number and said I'd have to straighten it out with them. QVC said I had to have an order number to cancel an order. I explained that our debit number was stolen, and we didn't do the ordering. They kept insisting that they couldn't cancel a transaction with just a debit card number. I called the bank back, who said again to call QVC. We went around like this for several phone calls until I finally had it out with the bank. Eventually they refunded our money, but it took a couple of days. Talk about panic!

That was the last straw for me. I assume that someone got our debit card number because DH had left a receipt behind again. He is no longer allowed to use a debit card.

I keep thinking it would be convenient to have a debit card for use at places such as the grocery store. For now I'm still using checks or cash.

I got gas one morning at the local gas station. The cashier scanned my card and said oops........ I made a mistake and scanned it again. I got 20 bucks in gas, got my statement in and she charged me $200! I personally went to store and talked to owner, he returned the $200 to me and said gas was on him. I was lucky to have plenty of money in account and didnt have overdrafts. I havent seen the cashier, I believe she was fired for theft, seems it has happened more than once. Needless to say I do not use my debit card unless I pay at the pump now.
