WOW!!!
I was getting gas yesterday and the girl in the car on the other side of the pump asked for a pack of cigarettes and the guy said "seven bucks." Are you smokers seriously spending THAT MUCH per pack??? Not to judge, because I've not had an addiction (luckily), but holy cow...there's an area you could be saving $$ in BIG TIME! (and you'll live longer)

You can get them as low as $45 carton (10 packs). If you buy singly it's about $5.00. But I heard there were going to be additional sin taxes applied to that.
I don't think they call it sin taxes though. Probably b/c people would argue they are not religious and therefore s/n have to pay for a sin.
I am so happy I don't smoke. But I used to for about 5 years. When I quit... I put my pseudo-cigarette money in a savings account and saved enough money to go to Disney world- 18 months later. So you really can save.
If someone had no money or lots of debt... you'd think that should be enough incentive to kick the habit. But they just can't do it. Each person has to find their window of opportunity to quit.

I don't smoke, but my DH does... and it has to be the name-brand, of course. A carton (10 packs) runs him about $38-40, so I guess that breaks down to nearly $4 a pack.

Noone in our home smokes, but DH dips copenhagen which runs $4.89 a can. Sometimes we can get lucky and find double wrapped packages for $7.49. It is an expensive habit with bad benefits......cancer. I wish he would quit. He has tried, but can't seem to kick it for good.

So expensive! Glad no one around here smokes. The sad part is that I generally ask friends and co-workers why they STARTED smoking (I have an insatiable curiousity to know why anyone would light something on FIRE, and then stick it in their mouth,) and every single one of them said peer pressure/to look cool, so I am definitely going to make sure to keep a close eye on DD when she gets older.
I totally understand the addiction, though. There is not a person I know IRL who is not trying to quit or wanting to quit. Imagine not spending that money!

Off brand around here is 2.10 a pack, name brand 3.15 a pack if purchased by carton.
I have already quit once, so I KNOW I can quit..... unfortunately I gained about 40 lbs when I quit. So I started back five months later and the weight fell off. Now, I know the weight's probably healthier than smoking but since losing that 40, I've gained another forty from doc's putting me on antidepressants , which he admitted later screwed up my metabolism. Unfortunately I quit the antidepressants a year ago and still can't drop the weight even with diet/walking. Well that's a whole nother issue :-(
So now I think about quitting and think.. whoa, that would be another 40 lbs = 80 lbs. I seriously think I would want to stay in the bed and never get up .Carrying this extra 40 has already gotten me feeling SO down already, I don't think I could handle more. Nor could my back, which already bothers me with the extra weight.
So I know these are all excuses at this point as to why I continue smoking, which I am hating too, because I loved smelling fresh and clean and not having that stupid habit, but I'm honestly stumped over here....Change Jar - 239.00 ~ March 18 , 2006

Both me and my Bf smokes, and it's $5 a pack here, at the cheap stores. At most stores it's about $5.30-$5.60. It's really hard to quit though . . .

My hubby smokes too an it's about 4-5 a pack depending on were he stops. I wish he would stop, he has been smoking since he was 13 and he's 44 now.

Not a smoker myself but here in Australia (m)
they can cost up to $14 a packet of 50! Not sure what that costs when you factor in the exchange rate but it's still a lot of money! I think cartons can cost $70+.

My DH pays around $4.50 a pack. He used to be a 3/4 pack/day smoker and has cut down to a pack a week. I give him $10 every payday (2 weeks) and that's it. He's tried to quit and hopefully someday does. Until then, I've told him this is all we can afford. It's a hard habit to break...I quit 3 1/2 years ago after 5 years and there are days I still want one.
