What a Grocery Shopping Trip!
Okay, for Easter, my parents gave Rob and I, each, a $50 gift card to ShopRite. So, that's $100 of free food, essentially. We were out of EVERYTHING. No meat, no pasta, no sugar, no brown sugar, etc. The pantry was getting barer by the day, and the fridge and freezer were tundras of wasteland.
So, I decided to take those gift cards, and use them on a massive shopping trip that would hopefully stock us up for a month, so that each week, through the end of May, we would only have to buy milk, bread, and fresh fruit and baby carrots for dh's lunches.
I knew that it would be more than $100, considering that I was buying meat for a month, but my goal was to spend no more than another $100 out of pocket, for a total of $200 worth of food.
There were coupons for some of the things I bought, but not most. I bought other items that were on sale, but basically, I needed what I needed, whether it was on sale or not. That happens sometimes.
So, for $97, I bought:
10 ShopRite yogurts
1/2 gallon Turkey Hill ice cream
2 gallons milk
2 huge jars ShopRite applesauce
2 packages frozen broccoli
4 packages cavatelli (on sale for .79 each...good deal!)
2 jars Ragu sauce
1 box Shake-n-Bake
2 packages hot dogs
2 packages fusili (this pasta is $1.99 a package, which is more than I would EVER spend on pasta, but we haven't been able to find fusili ANYWHERE and it's our favorite type of pasta, so I bought two bags, since they actually had it, but I won't be buying it again...it's a treat.)
2 boxes Tyson chicken nuggets
6 cans Campbell's mushroom soup
1 packages ShopRite ibuprofin
1 cannister ShopRite bread crumbs
1 cannister ShopRite raisins
1 6 pack water (I normally never buy water, but Julia's taking a sports for squirts class, and I can't find our water bottles, and they have water breaks, and I don't want her to go without.)
4 packages of cheddar cheese
4 boxes Special K (I had a coupon and I really feel that this is a great cereal when you are trying to lose weight)
2 boxes Cheerios
5 packages of ground beef
4 packages of pork chops
2 rump roasts
1 box SlimFast meal replacement bars
1 box SlimFast Optima snack bars
1 package ShopRite hot Italian sausage
10 lbs sugar
2 loaves wheat bread
1 package hot dog buns
1 package hamburger buns
1 package hamburgers
2 lbs brown sugar
2 cannisters Wylers Lite Lemonade
1 bag ShopRite pretzels
1 bag Stauffer's Animal Crackers
1 package ShopRite vanilla creme wafers
5 pounds pasta
1 bunch bananas
5 granny smith apples
5 macintosh apples
1 package of grapes
Phewf. It was a loaded cart, and I felt good only paying $97 out of pocket for it, thanks to my parents. I really think we can make it pretty far through May without anything else but the essentials. Wish me luck!My Blog: http://amysreallife.wordpress.com

Good for you & sounds like you had fun too.
I'm betting you'll be able to just shop for those few things when the need arises.
