YAY!!!!
I am getting married in September and I thought my faince and I were going to be paying for the whole thing out of pocket. My future father in law is going to pay for the rehersal dinner and my mom just informed me that she will pay for the photographer! yay!!! That is two things I don't have to pay for out of pocket!!!!

Congrats! I know from experiance that a couple of things really help out! My exhusband (long story... he was a money WASTER!) paid for most of our wedding. Well, long story short, we had the small ceremony with the dress and flowers and invitations that I wanted for about (including the dress and tuxedo) for about 1200 bucks, and the rehearsal dinner his family paid for, (that is tradition, after all!) and the reception? About 500 bucks. We ended up just changing into shorts and tshirts and having a back yard bar b que at a friends house. Since all of our family lived out of state from where we were getting married, we thought it would be one, CHEAPER! (And boy, was it!) and better suited to actually spend time with our families that we hadnt seen in ages, than to have the whole reception hall black tie affair. Of course, we got married Memorial Day weekend, during the day, so who would want to be stuck inside anyways!

That's wonderful! Every little bit helps. Let us know if you need help with frugal wedding ideas! You can have a beautiful wedding for very little. My parents paid for my wedding, but we did the whole thing for $7000. That included an amazing catering service with a fabulous spread of food. Just find the things that are most important to you, and cut the things that don't really matter. For example, I didn't bother with a video of the ceremony. The church wanted $400 for it, and I didn't want to ask a friend to tape it instead. I'd been made to watch other people's wedding videos (snooze!). I know myself, and I knew I probably wouldn't watch the video. That's what pictures are for!
Anyway, I'm sure everyone here has plenty of ideas for a beautiful wedding for very little money.
Best wishes to you and your fiance!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. That was a nice gift from both sides. We did our wedding for about $1200 also. The church was free since we attend it. My dh, his mother and I cooked all the food the night before, then the next day we put it in huge roasting pans to warm up. Cut all the vegies, cheese and etc. Then my SIL made our cake for our gift. The tuxes and dresses I got discounted and clearenced, then I made all the floral arrangements.
I wish you a beautiful future.Maggi

That's awesome. I know that my dh's family did help out some in those areas. It was a huge expense nonetheless. I'm really happy for you.

We had our reception at a cooking school!! Johnson and Wales in Rhode Island. After the reception, the students all got graded. I never found out what their grades were
But it was sooo much cheaper to have our reception there than anywhere north of Boston.

My future step MIL is making the food and I am having it at the church for no extra charge
