So much for my frugal dinner!
A friend had moved out of state a few weeks ago and given me a whole chicken. Tonight I decided to make a really nice dinner. I roasted the chicken, made rice and gravy, cranberry sauce - we love this meal, but don't have it often, because it is a pain to make.
So the chicken was still a little frozen when I put it in the oven, so instead of leaving it at 450 for 15 minutes, I left it in at 450 for 30 minutes and then turned it down to 350 for another hour. So 1.5 hours of cooking time. When it was done I am trying to remove it from the pan onto a plate and bright red blood comes pouring out of the cavity of the chicken all over the floor. So I am quickly trying to get the meal together, I still have to cut the chicken and make the gravy, and dh cleans up the mess for me.
So I get everything ready and go to cut the chicken. I tear off a drumstick, and the whole chicken falls apart and I am thinking that I over cooked it. I then cut a few slices and realize that the middle of the chicken hasn't even begun to cook, it looks as if it is still frozen actually. What? Now I have a bloody mess of a falling apart uncooked chicken. I am still confused, but it was in so many pieces that I couldn't even put it back together to cook it more. Besides this sort of thing scares me.
So I quickly heat up some chicken nuggets and help the plates with the rice and gravy and nuggets. This is when I dropped a spoonful of rice on the floor. Dh by this time just can't figure out what is wrong with me, but graciously cleans up this mess while I finish helping the plates. AFter dinner, I go to dump the chicken from the plate into the trashcan and end up pouring much more bright red blood all over the floor. I cleaned this mess up, but dh can't stop laughing at me.
I am so frustrated! At least I didn't spend money for the chicken, but I was planning on another meal of leftovers out of it as well as dinner tonight.
I guess some days are just like this!

I understand I have that problem with dropping things all the time, mine is related to my health issues but it can be so frustrating, I cook my chicken either in my crock pot all day or at 200 for at least 6 to 7 hours, I like to cook my chicken slow that way i make sure it is done, sorry to hear about your dinner going bad, hopefully next time things will go better just sounds like maybe uncle murphy was visiting you then..... he is usally camped out at my house.. lol,,,, smile and remember that this to shall pass, and in a few months no one will remember that it happend.

I think everyone has a least one bad meal every now and then. I can remember a few months ago I took out some frozen chicken thighs and figured I'd just cook them a little longer than usual - dumped BBQ sauce on them and put them in a glass pan - glass pan + heated oven + frozen chicken - well, the pan exploded and I had BBQ sauce all over the sides of my oven! I was so mad I ordered out food and didn't even THINK about cleaning it until I had eaten the takeout.
Hope tonight goes a little better for you!Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06)

Don't feel bad, It happens to all of us ...from time to time. I made a huge mess this morning.....I was still sleepy and wanted good coffee
, I wanted to grind some fresh coffee beans I had. I filled the little cup and put the cap on and when I went to set the bag of beans back on the counter ..it tipped over and as I went to grab it.........I knocked it off the counter. Those beans went rolling and bouncing all over.......under the fridge into the cats food.....they were everywere!!!! Started my morning with a few choice words...
