It's raining. It's pouring.
We've gotten about a foot of rain. We're in Massachusetts.
Our basement was doing well. No leaks from the cracks. The money spent on that aspect of waterproofing was worth it.
HOWEVER!!!! We're having our 100 year flood problem. The water is literally rising up through the cement cellar floor - the water table is that high. DH thinks it is the seams where the floor meets the walls, but even on the interior walls this is happening. This is the second 100 year flood we've had in the past 10 years.
The last time we ended up with 5 inches of water in the cellar and it kept "refilling" as I emptied it. DH left on a business trip the day the day it started raining and 10 inches of rain later, I had to deal with it on my own. It took a month for the water table to recede and DH was away for 3 weeks of that lovely month.
The sump pump isn't working and the area of the cellar having the problem doesn't have the sump in it anyway.
There are none to be had anywhere in the state at the moment. So we ordered a sump pump and a - a pool cover pump (pumps down to 1/8" - from elsewhere in the country and are paying to have them shipped overnight.
We need the pool cover pump to drain the lower part of the basement as it is to much work for the wet vac.

I feel your pain. I hope you don't have any more damage and can get the sump pump working ASAP.
My fil has 2' of water in his basement now. He was building a pipeline outside his house yesterday to divert the water.
We are very lucky that we don't have any in ours yet. We had 11" of rain between Friday and Sunday, and we got more rain today. Our town is so flooded that they even cancelled school today.

I am in southern Maine-York County. We have had over a foot of rain since Friday-around 13.98 inches to be exact. YIKES!!!! We have a damp basement floor-nothing major thank goodness. I wish I could say the same for some of our town's people. It is really bad. I hope the rain will stop tomorrow as the weather people are saying. Prayers to all in Mass., N.H., and Maine who are struggling.

Yikes! I hope your new pump arrives quickly! Does this cause mold problems for you? (I've never had a basement, so I know nothing about this sort of thing.)

Hope the pumps get there fast! We had water problems with our old house, in fact it even had a small stream that ran through it, more than once we had a sump pump go out and had a swimming pool down there, ugh.
Our basement was an old stone foundation and the floor had been concreted about 30 years ago, we actually had 2 feet of water one time, had to fully clean the furnace and it ruined the water heater.
Our new house is up on a hillside so basement is dry thank goodness, but it's also a dirt floor basement and we don't use it at all for anything other than the furnace/water heater. In fact the beams are only about 5'7" which SUCKS since I'm 5'10"!
Thoughts are with you that the rain ends! We here in Ohio had had rain for 5 days straight but not nearly as much as you've had, we're expecting up to 7 more days of it too, ugh.

Living thru 100 year floods is no fun, I feel your pain. we've lived through a couple since moving in here 13 years ago. The big one was in the month of January, now that was some mighty cold water.
Hope the rain lets up soon. Enough already.

I am irritated.
I hope you all get pumps soon and in a timely fashion.
I hope none of your cities truly get flooded.
I know the devastation that causes.
I have never had a basement, because the city I grew up was under sealevel. So I have no idea about water coming up through cement! That was an eye opener.
(Oh, I am irritated because floods irritate me. I hate floods. Floods ruin lives. In a BIG way. My brother had 15 FEET of water in his house after the 17th Street Canal broke after Katrina. 15 FEET. They were supposed to move into the house the weekend the hurricane hit. So, they never even LIVED in the house. And the house they were renting 2 blocks away had 12 feet of water in it, so EVERYTHING they owned was destroyed. My mother was able to salavage ONE wedding picture, and the wedding china. That was it. Floods, in my opinion, SUCK!)

Everyone here in CT has water in their basements, many are in the same situation as you are. I have what someone told me was a french drain in my basement. I am not sure what this does but it's a long trench that is dug out of the basement floor with pipes that lead to the sump pump. You might want to look into this. I am also having trouble with my pump it keeps running and running and I am worried the pump is going to burn up. It's making an awful racket so I keep going down to the cellar to plug and unplug it as I need to. I hope your new pump arrives soon.
